My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Pet (information@pethelpersinc.org) for more information about this pet.

Meet little Miss Sophie! Sophie came to us after her owner passed away. Sophie is sassy and sweet all rolled into one. Sophie is an independent lady who knows what she likes, and she also knows what she doesn't like. Who doesn’t like a strong independent lady? One thing she does not like is her hair being brushed out but will need it brushed and trimmed to keep her looking hot to trot, she is not afraid to let you know she does not enjoy the process. She would also prefer to be the only dog in the home. After all she is independent. She does not have time for other dogs being up in her business. She just wants to play with her toys and feel like the world is her playground. Sophie is well behaved and has free run of the house when you are not home. She likes feeling like a boss! Sophie also likes walks to strut her stuff, taking car rides and taking many naps throughout the day.   Sophie is 11 years young! She weighs 18 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, microchipped and has a clean bill of health. No Lyme or heartworm! She does have dry eye and has to have medicated eye drops twice a day.  We also have her on flea prevention, and she has been wormed. So who wants to spend the rest of their life with this little boss?  If you are interested in making this cutie part of your family please click on the following link to fill out an application:  https://www.pethelpersinc.org/adoption-application/

Pet Helpers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster based volunteer rescue located in Fairmont, WV.  We do adopt out of state to approved applicants, if you are willing to drive to WV to pick up your pet.  We do not fly or use transport companies.  Our adoption fee is $150.00 for mixed breed puppies and adult dogs, $225.00 for full blooded puppies and adult dogs and $50.00 for cats and kittens.  Regardless if the animal is a mixed breed or full blooded they are spayed/neutered prior to adoption IF they are old enough.  If they are too young at the time of adoption, then it is your financial responsibility to spay/neuter the pet by the age of 6 months and you must provide proof for our files that it has been done.  All of our pets are checked by a vet, given the shots appropriate for their age and any other treatment deemed necessary by the vet.  All of our pets are adopted as indoor pets and are not be outdoors tied to a box 24/7.  The pet you are adopting has been living in a home with a foster family.  You are expected to take possession of the pet you are applying for within a few days of application approval.  This will enable us to accept another pet into that home.  Because we are a rescue, and believe that spaying and neutering is crucial in stopping the reproduction of unwanted puppies/kittens and massive amounts of animals dying daily in shelters across the country, we expect any animal already in your home to be spayed/neutered. If for any reason you are unable to keep the pet you have adopted you are required to return them to Pet Helpers, Inc.  They are not to be sold or given away.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Email information@pethelpersinc.org for an application. We require a vet reference and 2 personal references. Once the application is approved, we will arrange for the family to meet the pet and decide if they want to finalize the adoption. Our adoption fee is $150 regardless of age/breed. Our contract requires that the pet be kept as an indoor pet and part of the family. If the pet is old enough, it will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Young puppies are required to be spayed/neutered by the age of 6 months, which is not included in the adoption fee. You are required to send a spay/neuter certificate to Pet Helpers. If you can no longer provide a home for the pet, you are required to return the pet to Pet Helpers, Inc.

Go meet their pets

We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in Foster care and live with families until they are adopted. We can arrange a visit with any of our pets in foster when someone calls or emails us.

You can view our adoptable pets on our website: www.pethelpersinc.org and we also have a link on the Home Page to our Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We were formed in September of 2008. We provide much needed support to pet owners, animal caregivers and other rescues. We also work to educate pet owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We place homeless animals from within our organization as well as other Rescue Organizations.

We do not have a shelter or facility. All of our pets are kept in foster homes until adopted. We feel that this better prepares the pet to live with the family who adopts them. We have placed over 1,000 pets with adoptive families and continuously look for new foster homes so that we can give more pets a chance at a new life.
