My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Legacy ACCT-A-179837 is a 4-year-old male who came in as an owner surrender on 11/3 due to the owners moving. The owners noted "he play around he is a good dog. High energy, start off barking but he will get use to her. Barks at strangers, comfortable with children, really good with cats.

Behavior Notes:

Per volunteer on 11/8: No more aggressive barking in his kennel. He does bark when someone new comes into the room. No more showing of teeth and wanting to bite. He circles with excitement when I go up to his kennel and open the door. He tries to avoid the lead (I use a thinner one) by circling but once it's on he stops circling, comes out nicely without incident, accepts pets and off we went. Went back into his kennel with a tiny bit of encouragement.

Per volunteer 11/6: Very timid but sweet. No problems going out after a short display of her front teeth. Calmed down after spending some time talking to her and I carried her out.

Per staff 11/4: "When approaching Legacy in small dog room he was very reactive. When the handler approached he jumped up on his bars snarling, snapping, barking and growling and was very reactive and defensive. The handler used a snappy snare to leash him and he was continuously snapping, baring teeth, growling and shaking it in his mouth. It took several minutes for the handler to leash him due to his reactivity. Once leashed he needed a bit of leash pressure to get out of kennel and then immediately ran at the handler and tried to bite her ankles. She kept him at a distance. Once in a quiet room Legacy remained tense and nervous towards us. He would bare teeth frequently and snap at interaction attempts. When ignoring him completely he would approach and and sniff us and jump up with his front paws but then bare teeth again if we reached for him. After awhile in the room he began to allow some light petting on his back but would begin to bare teeth after a few seconds of handling.

Medical Notes:

Per an intake exam on 11/3: Legacy was found to be in good general health.
