I am currently at Stafford Creek Corrections Center as part of the FREEDOM TAILS Board & Train Program from August 8 - October 31. This popular program pairs a duo of incarcerated individuals up with a PAWS of Grays Harbor pooch for 12 weeks. Each dog has a primary and secondary handler assigned to the same cell, giving the dog 24-hour care and attention to meet its needs. During their stay at SCCC, these dogs receive specialized training to prepare them for adoption to the public. At the end of their 12-week stay, they enjoy a special adoption ceremony with their new families to show off their skills as they start a new journey. Find out more at pawsgh.org/freedomtails.

Hello there, I'm Dalwood! You know, I wasn't always a shelter pup. One day, I was minding my own business, sniffing out a good read in the library (I'm a bit of a bookworm), when a librarian shushed me. Can you believe it? A dog getting shushed in a library! Next thing I knew, I was here, making friends and avoiding the TV room (too much noise, not enough tail wagging). I'm a sweet, friendly, and energetic goofball. I love a good cuddle and I'm smart too. Kids are my favorite playmates - their energy matches mine! So, if you're looking for a fun-loving, cuddly smarty-pants who can keep up with the kiddos and bring you endless laughs, I'm your guy. Just promise to keep the TV off, okay?

Hello lovely humans! It’s me Dalwood. I wanted to reach out to all of you beautiful people and let you know I have been working really hard to better myself in many different ways. I am hoping that whatever lovely family loves me enough to adopt me will love me knowing that my manners will improve here at Freedom Tails. Right now I do bark at things I want to check out, but I am trying to learn how to control that, in order to make our life better and easier. I enjoy having my back and butt scratched not too rough though. I am not a big dog even though I act like one. I love to love and be loved. So, come love me now and I swear I will love you back and more!

What’s up, humans? My name is Dalwood. I’m looking for someone that doesn’t mind a dog that barks at new dogs, when I get excited, and just when I want to say hi. Things I like to do are sitting in someone’s lap to look at the world higher up, to get rubs, and to get scratched all over. Getting my butt scratch is the best thing in the world. If anyone out there is a butt scratcher, I am your dog and I need a home. Hopefully my new person has another furry friend for me and lots of treats. Well I gotta go I hear a dog barking. I’ll talk to you guys soon!!

Dalwood is a sweet sweet little dog that loves to play with other dogs and people. Dalwood loves his toys that he loves to play tug with the toys that make noise/squeak. He’s a big, big fan of running and chasing other dogs. He is a very smart dog and loves to work for treats. Dalwood has dogs he loves and dogs he does not really care for. He will run around for hours with the dogs he loves. One of my favorite things about Dalwood is the fact that he loves to cuddle with me during the day!

Hi to all my two legged friends, Dalwood Checking in! I’ve been working hard on my cues and can’t wait to show you. I now know how sit, down, stand, wait, come, by me, with me, create/kennel, place, stay, leave it, drop it, take it, up, off, back, go see and find it!!! I’ve been doing a lot of work on my barking, too! I am not perfect but I’ve made some progress. Also, I want to say “HELLO!” to my future pet parent! I’m really looking forward to being a part of your life and have you being a part of mine!!

People of the Earth, my name is Dalwood. I’m the most important dog you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. I’m the “self appointed” King of the entire universe and if for whatever reason you had the misfortune of somehow being unaware of how important I am-you’d quickly be able to sense how magnificent I am by my stride, my posture, and my regal countenance. I may be sitting in your lap, but we both know who’s really running the show…me…King Dalwood. If, when I ring my dinner bell my food is brought to me in a timely manner, I shall bestow upon thee a great and rare honor…. Several licks to your chin. I realize that not many humans have had the privilege of sharing the company of dog royalty so I will try and be patient and forgive any lapses in decorum. You’re free to call me your majesty, your highness, or your excellency if my greatness makes “Dalwood” seem too casual. When I walk through a crowd of people they quickly bow their heads. I don’t really chase balls because, besides being too busy, the act of ball chasing is actually beneath someone of my prestige. However, when the mood strikes and I am sufficiently exasperated by the incompetence of those in my kingdom, I enjoy a little stress relief by ferociously shaking my toy mouse or toy lizard. This display of viciousness that I unleash upon whatever toys are unfortunate enough to incur my wrath is a vulgar, but sometimes necessary display of power that I must showcase from time to time to let everyone in my kingdom know who is top dog!! Most of the time though, I enjoy sitting a top a high vantage point (your lap) to survey all that is in my kingdom( your place) whilst my masseuse(you) is given the great privilege of rubbing my hindquarters!!
