Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Frank!
Frank (aka Frankie) is a 9 year old male chihuahua ready for his forever home. Frank is a tiny guy at only 4.5 pounds. He also has only two teeth left after his dental, and his one tooth often causes his top lip to lift up on the side of his mouth, looking like he has a permanent scowl. But don’t let that fool you- he is an absolute sweetheart! We’re told Frank was quite a grumpy dog prior to his dental, but in his current foster home he’s been a happy guy and we’re assuming that he was in quite a bit of dental pain that was making him not feel quite so good.
Frank is 100% a Velcro dog and nothing makes him happier than to cuddle with his person and get pets and belly rubs. His foster mom calls him “wiggle worm” because he is always lying on his back and wiggling around. It is so cute! He will often follow his foster mom around the house, even to the bathroom! He just wants constant attention, and it’s hard not to give it to him because he has the most irresistible face! In fact, he loves attention so much that when the other dogs in the house are trying to get attention, he will often try to squeeze in front of them and take all the pets (this understandably doesn’t make the other dogs very happy!) We think Frank would do fine in an only dog household, provided his person/people are home a lot, perhaps with a work from home position or someone retired. He seems to get along with other dogs, he is quite submissive, but he doesn’t seem to have much interest in interacting with them. He doesn’t seem to have an interest in playing with toys either. He does love to run around in his foster home’s fenced yard and roll around in the grass. He is also a great guard dog and will definitely alert you to anyone passing by the yard or when the mailman arrives! Frank has an adorable little whine that he makes when he is dissatisfied with something, but he also does it sometimes when he is happily getting pets, so we think he just likes to be vocal sometimes!
It did take Frank almost a week to warm up to his foster father though he warmed up to his foster mother immediately. For this reason, we are guessing he may warm to women more quickly. But after 5 or 6 days in the house, with patience and gentle efforts from foster dad, Frank started feeling comfortable enough to accept foot pets from foster dad and the next day accepted hand pets from him, and before you know it Frank was climbing up on the couch to lie in foster dad’s lap for hours at a time! Did we mention Frank seems to have a foot fetish? He will often stand in front of his foster parents’ feet when they are sitting on the couch and nudge their feet with his snout until someone starts petting him with a foot. Sometimes he still barks at foster dad, but it’s much less often and less persistent than it was when he first arrived to his foster home. Prior to coming to CRT, Frank was staying temporarily at a home with children, and it’s been reported that he did very well with the daughter in the home. So Frank may be okay going to a home with older children who know how to handle little senior chihuahuas and provided the home is calm and not chaotic. Frank has not been tested around cats so we cannot attest to how he’d respond if he was around one.
Frank is learning how to walk on a leash, and he’s doing great with it so far! He is also working on his potty training. At the time of this writing, he was neutered only a few weeks ago, and he still has some marking tendencies that we are trying to work on with him. Right now he is wearing a belly band when he isn’t being supervised in the home, and he doesn’t love it but he accepts it. The hope is that the more time that passes since his neuter the marking behavior will decrease on its own. His foster family is also using positive reinforcement to reward him when he goes potty outside. Already he is making improvements!
Frank is overall healthy. He has been fully vetted and received the appropriate vaccinations. As previously noted, he recently had a dental and neuter. Since he has two teeth, he does get soft food. He also had a orofacial fistula repair during his dental, and this seems to be healing well. Frank will be microchipped prior to adoption. Frank is heartworm negative and takes a once/month heartworm preventive pill. Frank LOVES food and is always eager for meal time and also loves fruits and veggies.
Frank’s adoption donation is $300.
