At just two weeks old, tiny Altaria arrived from BARCS weighing half of what she should have, with both eyes severely infected. The odds were stacked against her, but sometimes the tiniest kittens have the mightiest spirits - and this little warrior had spirit in spades. AARF knew that Altaria deserved a chance, and that in order to have that chance, she would need special ongoing care in the hands of an expert foster with the experience, patience, and love to care for this special girl. A truly amazing foster was up to the task, and quickly opened her home to Altaria. Through round-the-clock bottle feeding and dedicated medical care, Altaria grew stronger each day, defying those early odds with every gram gained. When she was finally strong enough for surgery to remove her infected eyes, it wasn`t an ending - it was just the beginning of showing the world what she could do. And oh, what she can do! This clever girl has mapped out her world using her incredible hearing and a nose so keen she can detect a Churu treat packet from five feet away (a skill we`re pretty sure qualifies her for superhero status). Watching her confidently climb beds, leap with precision, and navigate play sessions with other cats, you`d never guess she faces any challenges at all. But it`s Altaria`s heart that truly makes her extraordinary. This gentle soul, with her tiny squeaks and enormous capacity for love, has a special passion for fuzzy blankets - where she`ll happily bury her face while making biscuits and purring up a storm. AARF only adopts pets to people in the Baltimore/DC metro region. In certain circumstances, we will consider homes in closer areas Pennsylvania, Delaware and Northern Virginia. This is due to the required home visit and long term ability to support the adoption. If you live outside of an hour radius of Baltimore, it is unlikely that your application will be approved.
Completion of the application form does not guarantee AARF will place one of our pets in your care. Many of our animals receive multiple applications, and we evaluate each applicant on fit for the specific animal (not first come first serve).
Completion of the application authorizes AARF to verify any information contained herein, including verification of medical records of any present or prior pets treated by the veterinarians listed.
