My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mac: Your Future Fall Hiking and Snuggle Buddy!

As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, Mac is ready to be your adventure companion this fall! This handsome two-year-old cattle dog/ Shepherd mix is a little nervous at first but warms up quickly to become the ultimate snuggle buddy. Mac has a high energy level and loves to explore, making him the perfect partner for long walks and hiking adventures.

While he thrives on activity, Mac has a strong prey drive, so he’s not suited for homes with cats, chickens, or other small animals. He enjoys turning recall into a playful game of `keep away,` more like `stay away` staying just out of reach and inviting you to chase after him. Due to his tendency to roam, a secure, fenced yard is essential for keeping him safe and happy.

Mac knows basic commands, and with time and patience, he has great potential to be a pawsome fit in your home! He can be a bit anxious around new people and situations, so he would do best with an experienced owner who understands high-energy, high-drive dogs. He’s gentle on the leash and generally gets along with other dogs, though proper introductions are key since he’s had some challenges in the past.

He loves to chew on elk antler chews and play with his favorite baseball glove, adding even more fun to his playtime! Mac does need some extra care during vet visits and nail trims, as a gentle sedation may be necessary to keep him calm. He’s great with older kids (12+) and will thrive in an active home that can provide him with the exercise and mental stimulation he craves.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will bring joy to your fall adventures and share warm moments together, Mac is ready to find his forever home. Don’t miss out on the chance to create incredible memories with this loving boy!

Could you be the perfect match for Mac?

More about this shelter

Why adopt from LRHS? Adopting from a shelter gives owners the opportunity to meet and bond with their future pet prior to making the commitment to adopt. If you have an existing dog, our professional dog trainers and kennel techs will ensure all dogs meet and get along before sending a new dog into your home. If you run into any unforeseen behavioral or medical issues, educated LRHS staff are here to help field your questions and concerns.

LRHS ensures all dogs placed for adoption are to date on Rabies, Distemper and Bordatella vaccinations and are spayed/neutered, microchipped and administered flea/tick and heartworm treatments monthly. If a dog has a medical condition or behavioral issue, LRHS will make certain you are aware of the issue(s) before you adopt.

LRHS ensures all cats placed for adoption are to date on Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, are spayed/neutered, microchipped, test negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV, and receive their monthly flea treatments. If a cat has a medical or behavioral issue, LRHS will make certain you are aware of the issue(s) before you adopt.

Upon adoption, owners receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam by Winter Harbor or Kindness Animal Hospital and a free starter bag of food!
