My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cattle dog mix puppy, male

Hi there, Casper (male) here. I’ve spent the last month in foster, learning how to be a (domestic) dog. You see I somehow managed to survive life in the wild as a stray tiny tot without starving or getting sick. Some good Samaritans brought me to CCHDR hoping they could teach me all about the delights of home life. I am learning that humans are there to lead, love and provide food, structure and safety. I have proven to be a Velcro dog, but not quite a lap dog. You see touch isn’t really my love language (yet), but I always want to be next to my person and included in everything like trips to the kitchen, bathroom, taking out the trash, movies on the couch, car rides, etc. I am housebroken (no accidents; no destruction) and walk great on leash. I also have some basic commands under my belt, like sit, stay, and come, which means I’m super smart according to my foster mom (see video). Oh, and I get the wiggles for my 7-year-old human foster sibling who calls me “mini buds.”

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:

I need a person or family with a heart of gold and the patience of a saint. Knowledge and experience working with feral dogs a plus. Having another balanced dog(s) in the home is a requirement as of now.

ABOUT:

- Cattle dog mix

- Male

- 4 months old

- 15 lbs (likely won't exceed 20lbs full grown)

- Microchipped, on a vaccine schedule and can go home on a neuter contract

Showing a feral dog the way to good citizenship is a commitment of time and often resources but yields the highest reward. Ask anyone who has ever done it.

More about this rescue

Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue is a Rescue Alliance partner, a federally recognized 501(c)3 non profit organization dedicated to finding great dogs great homes. County of San Luis Obispo Animal Service Operating Permit #C2649

Central Coast Border Collie Rescue (CCHDRescue) is dedicated to helping find homes for Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog/Queensland Heeler, Australian Kelpie, and other herding breeds and mixes. This site lists dogs in shelters as well as dogs in homes and foster care, and is intended to help adopters seeking good dogs, and dogs seeking loving homes. 7

Why we do it: Herding dogs are not for every one. Too many adopters get these dogs as status symbols only to find out, their life style doesn't meet these high energy dogs needs. As a result, these wonderful misunderstood dogs wind up in shelters. We understand what drives these dogs, we can place them appropriately.
Our mission is to educate people and save dogs. We do it because we love these dogs, with a little effort, can give them a good new life. Euthanasia is not the solution to our animal overpopulation issue. Education is.
