My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Koda is being fostered in Salem WI

Jolly Boy Koda! Koda is an energetic, approximately 4-year-old, 50-pound blue merle bob tail Australian Shepherd boy. Who could resist those beautiful eyes and cute head tilts? Koda is more than just handsome, he has a great personality. Koda has all the qualities of being playful, loving and energetic.

Koda is always looking for love and affection. There is no such thing as personal space! Koda would spend every hour of the day with his person, if he could, loving on them and being loved on. Though if he needs to have his own space, he does great in crates and in a fenced in yard. Koda also takes his attention off people when he has other dog friends to play with.

He's a bit of a bubbly athlete. He is always happy to run around and play. Running outside in the yard is one of his favorite things. Koda does need some extra practice on the leash.  Anything stimulating and engaging are great for this energetic boy. Koda is very smart, he has great recall, knows “sit”, crate trained and potty trained.

Koda is always willing to learn more. Fortunately, he takes his cue from his person and responds well to direction. Koda is also very food motivated and will do anything for food! He would probably be AUSSOME at a dog sport or even doing tricks!

Koda can be a bit of a fast eater, so a slow feeder would be best to prepare meals in. He has good house manners. He does well in his crate and sleeps in it at night and when no-one is home.  With some time to get used to a new environment and bonding with his family, he will be able to spend more time out of his crate alone or with his folks at night. Koda has been friendly with cats and will occasionally show interest by running up to them to say HELLO!

Koda is ready to keep learning and find his forever humans. He’s an Aussie looking for a confident coach to lead him into the best years of his life. He came to us after his previous home recognized that they were not capable of meeting the needs of a typical dynamic, spirited Australian Shepherd. Mental and physical stimulation and continued socialization will unlock all Koda's best qualities.

Active folks who love Aussie awesomeness will compliment Koda well. He is the dog for someone with an energetic lifestyle who sees a pup as a family member to bring along and hang out with.

What is Koda seeking in his Forever Home?

  • Koda's person(s) should be active, have herding dog or similar breed experience and confidence to meet the needs and the traits of an Aussie.

  • They see continued training and a lifetime of engaging their dog as a natural part of having a canine family member.

  • Koda prefers a fence, but it may not be necessary for the right active, experienced home. Koda would welcome another dog about his size who appreciates his style of play.

  • Introductions with new people, places, and pets MUST be slow and monitored.

Does this jolly boy make your heart burst with joy? The first step is to fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.)  Read the bio carefully. Priority is given to the pup's needs in choosing the adopter to ensure a happy forever.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
