Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Anyone interested in adopting a dog will need to complete an adoption application. The application is subject to vet references and home checks. If the dog is to be outside, we prefer the owner to have a fenced backyard. We ask that the dog be kept on a monthly heartworm prevention and flea medication. The dog will be spayed or neutered, age appropriate, as well as being heartworm tested with first dose of heartworm preventative and first oral flea medication. The rabies, DHPP and bordatella shots are included. If the dog is too young to be altered, the new owner has 30 days from the time the dog is 6 months old to show proof of sterilization.

Our adoption events will be held on the third weekend of each month at the San Antonio PetSmart located at The Rim.

More about this rescue

We are the Karnes County Humane Organization. Our mission is to assist Karnes County animal control facilities and the local community members in their efforts to provide a safe and healthy environment for the sick, abused, abandoned and homeless animals that come into their care and to increase pet adoption and rescue. To that end, we will provide funding for routine and emergency veterinary services, fostering, rescue networking, and transport to rescue groups and no kill shelters for the pets in need. We are also committed to promoting spay and neuter, as well as, humane education in order to reduce the neglect, abuse and abandonment of companion animals in Karnes County and the surrounding area.
