My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Leia
Age: 10 years

Leia is a gentle, easygoing senior dog with a love for life’s simple pleasures. She enjoys being close to her people, has great manners, and is a wonderful companion in the home.

Foster Notes:

Leash Skills: Leia walks well on a leash and is housebroken, making her easy to manage both indoors and on outings.
Affectionate: She loves to stay close to her people and is comfortable lounging on the couch, where she can relax and snooze.
Commands and Training: Leia understands “come” and “sit” and is food motivated, which helps in training. She’s currently working on “stay” and “wait.”
Crate Trained: Leia sleeps in a crate at night and is crated during the day if her foster needs to go out. She is comfortable in her crate and adjusts well to routines.
Cat Interaction: While extremely interested in the household cat, Leia has shown no aggression and even ignored the cat when it approached her food bowl.
Dog Social: Leia shows interest in other dogs and enjoys playtime, making her a good fit for a social home environment.
Food Preferences: She enjoys pumpkin purée mixed in with her kibble, which makes mealtime a treat.
Tennis Ball Lover: Leia adores tennis balls and will happily play with them.
Gentle Treat Taker: She has a gentle mouth when taking treats, showing her good manners.
Quirks: Leia is a bit of a messy water drinker, often leaving a trail of water droplets.
Looking For:
Leia is looking for a loving home where she can enjoy her golden years with companionship, playtime, and cozy spots to relax. She’d do well with an owner who can provide structure, affection, and the occasional pumpkin purée treat.

More about this shelter

Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
