My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SETTLING IN & LEARNING TO TRUST:  Approx. 9 years old / Approx. 12 lbs.

Hi, I’m Adele!  I came to Mostly Mutts from a home that had a lot of dogs! We needed help when our dad had to go into Hospice care, so Mostly Mutts was able to take me, and quite a few others, into their program. Now I’m ready to find a new home and family of my very own!  I’m in a great foster home while I wait for my new family to adopt me.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met the dog in my foster home and pretty much ignore him. I also came in with a lot of dogs, so if you have a dog already, let’s meet! / I have not been reactive to the cats in my foster home – just ignoring them.  If you have a dog-friendly kitty, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, but we have learned in my foster home that I’m very afraid of new situations and of people right now, so older calm kids will likely be best for me and of course, let’s meet.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I came to the shelter very scared and overwhelmed – hiding in the corner of my little room.  I’m a sweet girl though who DID start to warm up and receive affection from the loving volunteers – it just took me time and them patience.  Now I’m in a quiet and calm foster home where I am slowly decompressing and learning about normal doggie life. It seems that I’ve spent much of my life being a momma dog and not getting individual attention as I’m not used to being picked up, held and loved on – but I believe I’ll grow to enjoy these things given time, understanding and patience.  I even barked for the first time just the other day. Just know that I’ll likely try to avoid you for a while and will need a safe spot to retreat to while I get used to things. / My energy level is currently 3-5, though this may increase once I’m settled in my new home.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I don’t currently know any commands, as I am spending time working on growing my confidence.  Once I’m comfortable in my home, perhaps you can teach me some great commands. / I spend time in an open crate in my foster home, so I can venture out on my own terms. I seem to think of it as my safe place. / I've been having some accidents in my foster home, so please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  At the shelter after I started settling in, I enjoyed a good head and neck massage and completely relaxed - Ahh!  My foster learned that wrapping me in a blanket for some love and petting helps me calm down.  I enjoy going outside and would want some outside time each day in my new home.  When I see the door opening, I’m excited to go outside, so please be careful around open doors as I wouldn’t want to get lost or hurt.  I do love walks, but I can be stubborn as to where I’d like to walk, but I am getting better each day. / I would not like to be rushed into new situations or with people and I wouldn’t enjoy living in a busy or loud type of home with a lot of folks coming and going. I’m also sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love once I’m ready to accept that, attention, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I also had a dental cleaning, so my mouth is fresh again!  Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy.

I am looking for a calm, loving and quiet home where I can settle into a lifetime of love!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
