My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coco is a gentle soul who needs time and patience to feel safe, as she's only ever known one home since she was a small puppy. The sudden shift to shelter life has left her understandably scared and overwhelmed, surrounded by unfamiliar faces and sounds. Despite her nervousness, Coco's sweet nature shines through once she trusts someone. She has lived alongside a 6-year-old and a newborn, showing her loving, patient side with children. Coco enjoys attention from the 6-year-old and her nephews, but she's still learning how to stay calm during playtime. One of her favorite things is water-whether it's a bath in the shower or playing outside, she's always happy to get wet!

This affectionate girl is devoted to her people and loves nothing more than snuggling up or having a playful moment with those she trusts. While Coco is great with kids she knows, her shy and fearful tendencies mean she'll do best in a home with adults or older children who can respect her boundaries. A calm environment and the ability to read her body language will help her build confidence in her new surroundings. With love, patience, and continued training, Coco will blossom into the loyal, playful companion she's meant to be.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
