My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sir Snowball Swankypants is one sophisticated fella. He is obviously ABSOLUTELY HANDSOME but he packs a ton of personality bundled up in that floofy fur coat of his. Swanky, as his friends call him, has been through quite a big change recently as his owner, the love of his life, had to ask our rescue to find him a new home as she was suffering with dementia. Swanky was very attached to his person and quite sad when he came to his foster home, but with time and patience, he's shown us his true personality which is a super sweet and silly guy. He is such a love bug and enjoys head boops to get your attention for lots and lots of pets. He doesn't mind being picked up and held like a teddy bear once he gets to know you, and he makes adorable air biscuits, stretching his long front legs out and kneading the air with happiness. Swanky is a playful 8 year old boy and enjoys all of his toys, especially wand toys he can chase and small balls or mice to bat around. He's recently started to join his foster family at the foot of the bed for night time cuddling, and boy does he have a purr motor on him! We know Swankypants is going to take some time to adjust in a new environment all over again and he will need a cat experienced, patient, and understanding family to give him space to decompress. He can get overstimulated during this adjustment period and we will want to ensure that his new family is absolutely ready to let him settle in, not rushing him or giving up quickly. Swankypants has never lived with other animals but in his foster home he is curious and non-reactive to other adult cats. We do not believe he will like dogs and think a quiet home without small children is best. This amazing boy is so deserving of a wonderful forever home to help him continue healing his broken heart!

Additional adoption info

Tails High offers a a Foster-To-Adopt program when there are special considerations for adding a new cat to your household. FTA allows you to do have adequate time for a staged introduction to the new kitty in your home with other pets or family members. This trial basis as a foster parent before finalizing the adoption can range from 14-30 days depending on what our Adoption Team recommends and approves. Foster-To-Adopt ensures the new kitty is a good fit for you and your family, your current pets, and the Tails High cat or kitten(s) you’ve selected. Our goal is to make every effort to match people with the cats or kittens that will develop a lifelong bond.

We provide age appropriate vet care for all of the cats and kittens in our care at the time of adoption. This can vary depending on if you are adopting a kitten, an adult or senior cat. In most cases, kitties are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines (Rabies/FVRCP), FELV/FIV combo tested, given worm prevention and they have been microchipped. While we get the kitties off to their best start, we recommend our cats and kittens establish vet care once adopted within 60 days of going to their new home and provide the medical records to get set up with your primary vet.

Visit our web site to complete an adoption application. or send an email to us at meow@tailshigh.org and a Tails High representative will contact you promptly.

More about this rescue

Tails High Cat Rescue is a foster home-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit run 100% by passionate volunteers, helping cats and kittens in the Washington Metropolitan area, based in Alexandria, Virginia. All of our cats and kittens are in loving foster homes until they are ready for adoption. We do not have a physical shelter space and depend on the kindness of our volunteers to open their homes and hearts to kitties in need in order to fulfill our mission.

All our cats and kittens come from various backgrounds and beginnings. As we say, every cat deserves a loving advocate, so our kitties can be very different. We work very hard to provide excellent vet care from the time a cat or kitten comes into rescue. Additionally, we triage what each kitty needs from us in their foster home, prior to making them available for adoption. Because of the time we put into getting to know each and every one of our cats, we are specially positioned to be able to find their best match in a forever home. We take time to get to know their personalities, likes/dislikes and needs before sending them off to their future families. Each of cats and kittens are spayed/neutered prior to going to their forever home because we are adamantly concerned with doing our part to stop the overpopulation of cats in our communities. Spaying and neutering when age appropriate is key to ensuring the health of your cat and also stoping the cycle of reproduction. We also ensure our cats and kittens have age appropriate core vaccines to protect them from illnesses and get them started on a healthy path prior to adoption. We combo test our cats and kittens for feline leukemia and FIV and would disclose test results at the time of adoption. Our kitties are also microchipped prior to adoption to ensure they have added security should they ever get away from their family, but we do not permit our cats to ever be outdoor. As a “cage-free” shelter, our cats are fostered in homes with other cats, dogs, and children when possible. We spend a lot of time playing and cuddling with our rescue kitties, as well as socializing them, and making sure they learn to love their people as much as their people love them. We believe we have a cat for everyone, if they are ready to love unconditionally and prove they are committed to a cat as a family member to cherish for their lifetime.
