My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Sevyn is in a foster home, but can be easily brought into the shelter. Please give us a call to inquire about meeting her. We promise her love will be worth that small bit of extra effort! Dogs that are in foster homes have the advantage of already having some home training and having an easier transition to their forever home.**

Hi Everyone! I'm Sevyn, a 3 year old pit mix. My foster mom calls me Sweet Sevyn because I am the sweetest girl she has ever met! All of my friends here at the shelter have a story but I have TWO,  I was found by a hooman after I escaped from being tied outside on a 2nd story balcony and while I was checking out the town I was unfortunately hit by a car, you would never know from the amount of love that I give! Because of this, I could not and would not use my back legs. I would sit in my kennel not wanting to move. After a few days, I  began to get up a little, drag my legs to go potty. Fast forward a few days I started to open up and trust my friends here at the Humane society and began wagging my tail and trying to use my legs. No one was really sure if I was ever going to be able to walk, want to walk, or even need a cool thing these hoomas call a wheelchair.  I surprised everyone and had other plans, I began getting up and walking! with the assistance of a sheet helping my back end. My foster mom says I will probably be a wobbly girl all my life but I have done nothing but improve and can walk completely without help! I am an easy going gal who loves to be around any and everyone, dogs and cats! I am still learning to love my crate but when I am left out, I sleep in my bed all day! Come and let my wobbles woo you!

If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
