My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by a community member.

At SDHS:
Turkey has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered and is now ready for his new home!

Why Turkey might be the one for you:
First of all, Turkey wants you to know that he is no Turkey in any shape, form or fashion and he would not mind a new name. However, more than a new name, he wants a new home with people who are savvy about big, high energy dogs. He knows that he needs to settle down, not jump or pull and be respectful of people. He knows all this and he wants dog savvy people who will train him with consistency and kindness as he is learning . He says it will not take long. He is house trained and that did not take long. Do you have a place with access to the outside where he can run and play and inside space where he can come back in and find a big cushy bed for his many naps a day. We have resources and tips for training a dog like Turkey. Do you have the interest and understanding to morph this guy into the loyal, mellow companion that he wants to be? If so, he would like to meet you and he will try very hard to not jump because he wants to show you that he can be a very good dog. Come and see if our Turkey might be a good fit in your active life to become your best friend. Maybe with a new name because he is NO turkey.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
