I was born on the streets of Muscat in Oman. I lived in a dangerous and busy area. Apparently a car ran over my siblings, so a local rescuer stepped in to take care of me, my sister and my mum. My mum has now been adopted in Canada and is living in Montreal. My turn now.
I have been living in a foster home in Nanaimo for months and it's time to find my forever home.
I get along with all the many dogs where I used to live. I am a bit of an athletic tomboy and get along really well with male dogs. I am not automatically friends with all other dogs though and need to be introduced especially while on leash.
So, if you have another dog, I am perfectly happy with that. But if not, you and I can become the best of buddies. I am cat friendly as well. Though I haven't any experience with kids, I am such a happy-go-lucky girl, I would do fine with dog savvy, respectful kids https://youtu.be/5XdlhTMLmWI.

PEONY is the toughest little guard dog in the cutest package. Don't let her initial shyness fool you, she has SO much love in that body. She loves to be near her people, and while she isn't extremely cuddly, she will reach up for hugs and adores a spot on the couch or on the bed next to you to curl up and stay close. Loves her long walks and is mostly great on the leash, her leash manners are improving all the time but sometimes that bunny is just too tempting not to try and chase for a moment. A fenced yard/area would be a huge plus to get out her greyhound zoomies out, but she does perfectly well with consistent walks and toys to play with each day. Classic moderate greyhound energy levels, just let her get some good bursts of energy out and otherwise she's a big couch potato that wants to sleep in until 9am every day.
She is loyal and loves her people so much. She wants nothing more to spend all her time with you, even if that means curling up in a dog bed beside you in your home office. She's a big goofball that will make you laugh every day with her antics. Super car ride friendly! Take her with you everywhere! She's the best little co-pilot. She is housebroken but it's still "fresh" and consistency will be important. A little snack when she comes in from her business each time will teach her quickly to keep doing what she's doing. She is very treat motivated and thrives on consistency.
She needs help to keep building her confidence with other dogs. She is timid with other dogs but makes best friends and loves a good wrestle and chase. When she picks her friends, keep those playdates going! Be mindful of introductions, as her confidence still needs time to build up and she is not an automatic friend with every dog she meets, she plays best with fixed male dogs. I would not recommend an uncontrolled dog park setting to keep her set up for success. She does great on pack walks with other dogs though (on leash).
Peony will make herself scary to make a dog go away if she feels she needs to. Again this has never happened on leash/out and about. Only ever in an uncontrolled dog park setting with too many dogs and unpredictability when she gets very scared.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
