FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOMES NEEDED!!

***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form***

We would love to welcome Duncan into the Fetch + Releash family on November 17th, 2024 (subject to change). In order for Duncan to come into our care, we need a committed family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you'll be expected to take him home on his arrival date. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until his new forever family can be found.

Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog's nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.

Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet in Mississauga, ON for further vet care.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you'll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Duncan / Male / 3.5 yrs / 66 lbs / Mixed Breed / Sweet & Playful

Duncan shares a story like many other rescue dogs, found as a stray and brought to the local high kill shelter with no certainty of what's next. Thankfully, Duncan is one of the lucky ones who was brought to our rescue farm with an opportunity for a better future.

Duncan is a true affection enthusiast, but sometimes forgets his size. His future family should be mindful of this and continue working with him to not jump up. He adores everyone, from children to those helping around the farm. Duncan could live with older, respectful children (10+) who understand doggie etiquette and are okay with his size. Duncan is not suited for a home with cats.

While Duncan shares space with many dogs, he has been matched with a dog that matches his energy and play style. He will require proper introductions with new canine friends; he tends to be a bit overzealous in greetings but responds well to corrections from other dogs. Ongoing work on this behaviour and ensuring he is physically and mentally stimulated will be crucial for Duncan's success in his forever home.

For this exuberant boy, a structured routine and consistent training will be the keys to a happy and fulfilling life. Duncan is on the higher end of medium energy and is very much still like a puppy. He will need multiple daily walks as well as engaging doggy enrichment activities and chew time; all keys to keeping him happy and content. Duncan's love extends to toys and he delights in showing off his favourites while entertaining himself in his pen. Duncan cares deeply for his toys and is not one to destroy his plush babies; they are his prized possessions. Play-based training will also help build a strong bond as well as an obedient and loyal companion.

Duncan is ready to bring joy, love, and a touch of playfulness to the family that opens their hearts to him. Will you be the one to give Duncan the love and stability he deserves? You will surely have a lifetime filled with happiness, loads of laughter and ever lasting memories with the incredible energy that Duncan exudes.

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.

After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.

After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.

A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
