My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tabitha
Tabitha, a shy cat with a heart of gold, has a story that will touch your heart.

At just 18 months old, I`ve always been homeless. On August 28, I gave birth to four kittens, a daunting task to handle alone. But I never gave up! A kind man found us and brought us to the HSHC on September 14. What a relief! We quickly moved into a foster home where we could be safe and cared for. My foster mom soon figured out that I was utterly unfamiliar with living with people in a home. I was timid with her and found multiple hiding places I could go to avoid her company. On the other hand, my babies were extremely brave and outgoing. They showed me that this person was to be trusted. I gradually warmed up to my foster mom and enjoyed watching her cuddle my kids. If we had stayed longer, I think I would have fallen in love with her. Now that I am back at the shelter, I have resumed my old shy behaviors and often hide in my Kitty Kasa. My new family will need to give me plenty of time to relax and settle into a new household. But becoming a beloved pet cat is a goal I`m setting for myself. I hope my story will encourage you to be patient with shy pets like me. 11-6-24

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
