Koda, a 3.5-year-old long haired German Shepherd, is looking for a new home after being surrendered due to no fault of his own. He's a high-energy dog who would thrive in a home with a fenced yard or regular walks, and is house trained, crate trained, and gets along well with cats. Koda has his obedience training certificate as well as a therapy dog intro course certificate. When you are sad or upset Koda will sit with you and extend a comforting paw. With a history of being mistreated by a young child, Koda would do best in a home without children under 12 years old, or with older children who can understand how to interact with him properly. He is guarded on first intro and may bark or lunge, however once he understands that he's in no danger he quickly settles. He's very protective of his toys and plays gently, unlike most Shepherds, never destroying them and loves to play catch and fetch, making him a great fit for a German Shepherd-savvy household. He has been reactive to the male dog in his foster home, so a meet and greet with all canine family members is a must. He seems to be fine with females. Contact his foster at Amanda.vgsr.foster@gmail.com for more information or to learn more about adopting Koda He will be at the Fredericksburg Adoption Event on Saturday, July 13th at PetSmart in Central Park.
