Our little Dove is a special case......she came into the shelter as a little sick feral kitten. She was very scared and all alone. It took some time to get her over her intestinal problems and she had to be isolated during treatment. At the shelter Dove was very shut down and stayed crouched down and attempting to hide all the time. She would allow herself to be picked up and she would just curl into you as you petted her. She recently spent time at a foster home with three other cats and we have seen such a change in her. She purrs like crazy when you pet and scratch her along the back, she has begun playing with toys and coming out to get fed. Dove would really blossom in a quiet home with a patient owner who could give her the love she so needs. In foster care she now walks about and will get in the foster`s lap, she loves to pay with feathers on a wand, or a pipe cleaner spider toy. She quietly watches the other cats and even interacts with them. Watching a former feral kitty become a happy member of a family can be super rewarding. Dove would be great with another cat or two and a person who loves shy girls. She would not do well in a busy household with children as she is still very shy but oh, the progress she has made in the last ten days. If you have a heart for the overlooked shy ones then call us to learn more about sweet Dove. 903-886-1160 Check out our Facebook page at City of Commerce Animal Services.

More about this shelter
The Commerce Animal Shelter is a small rural shelter that cares for and makes every effort to find the perfect homes for orphaned dogs and cats. We strive to educate the public regarding animal care and will assist our community in any way we can.
We accept abandoned, stray and owner surrendered dogs and cats from Hunt County Texas and after a health screening and behavioral screening pets are placed for adoption. All adoptions include the pet's spay/neuter and Rabies vaccine. Other medical treatment is available for low cost fees, such as Distemper/Parvovirus vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, Microchip, Heart worm test, Heart worm preventative, Intestinal parasite testing and deworming.
Through the assistance of donations from loving people we can begin necessary medical treatment for some of our shelter orphans. We can begin vaccinating puppies against Distemper and Parvovirus, begin treatment for intestinal parasites, heart worm testing for adult dogs and we have even been able to assist pets with mange treatment. We would be happy to accept donations to medical treatment for any one of our orphans while they wait for forever homes.
We also welcome rescue organizations with current 501 c3. Just email your paperwork and let me know who is an authorized transporter, and the pet's name and ID# that you would like to tag for rescue.
