Be ready to adopt.

Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member. The one-of-a-kind French Bulldog, with his large bat ears and even disposition, is one of the world's most popular small-dog breeds, especially among city dwellers. The Frenchie is playful, alert, adaptable, and completely irresistible.
The French Bulldog resembles a Bulldog in miniature, except for the large, erect 'bat ears' that are the breed's trademark feature. The head is large and square, with heavy wrinkles rolled above the extremely short nose. The body beneath the smooth, brilliant coat is compact and muscular. The bright, affectionate Frenchie is a charmer. Dogs of few words, Frenchies don't bark much, but their alertness makes them excellent watchdogs. They happily adapt to life with singles, couples, or families, and do not require a lot of outdoor exercise. They get on well with other animals and enjoy making new friends of the human variety. It is no wonder that city folk from Paris to Peoria swear by this vastly amusing and companionable breed.

We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them. There is an adoption fee and contract.

Additional adoption info
Adopters fill out an adoption application, which asks questions such as where will they house the dog, what type of enclosure, do they have other pets, home or apartment, training aspirations, and what would they do if they could no longer keep the dog... they must also agree to a home inspection if necessary.

More about this rescue
We are a volunteer-based pet shop that carries shelter animals available for in-store adoption. Janss Marketplace donates the space to us, we have amazing volunteers, and we pull animals from high-kill shelters, and showcase them in a busy mall environment, where they gain great exposure and find loving new homes.
We have found over 15,000 homes for shelter animals since our opening in November 2011.
SHPS is part of the Shelter Hope Project, which strives to make this the business model for all mall pet shops. We hope to abolish all puppy-mill pet shops, help find homes for the countless pets in our shelters that face being euthanized, and educate the public on how we can ALL help reduce future shelter population.
