Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I am energetic and playful! I am looking for a family who is excited to keep me busy with appropriate outlets for my energy. I am a snuggly lap cat once I have had an opportunity to settle in, which may take a couple of weeks or months, but it will be worth it in the end!
I struggle with transitions, and my adopter must be willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in. My success will be dependent on how well my adopters are able to read and understand my body language.
It is recommend that I be set up in my own space (an extra bedroom or bathroom) - a space that people or animals do not have access to unless you are going in to clean or feed them. I should be left alone initially as I adjust. This space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to vertical surfaces such as a cat tree or a cat-proofed shelf. I can be gradually given more access to the home once I am confidently moving about my environment and remains confident with relaxed body language when my adopter goes in to spend time with me.
I may be conflicted about close handling and petting. Think of me as a pet myself on you kind of cat until I am more comfortable - meaning I should always be allowed to initiate an interaction with people vs. going up to pet me. Use a `petting consent test`: after I have initiated petting, removed your hands briefly to give me an opportunity to opt back into pets, or to say I am all done.
In addition to providing plenty of high surfaces (cat trees, cat-proofed shelves or perches) for resting and playing, I would benefit from a safe outdoor option, depending on the environment. Perhaps a catio, cat tent, or walking on a harness once I am more comfortable being handled.
Compatibility: Kids: older kids who are comfortable with a hot and cold cat Dogs: limited history with seeing dogs but has not lived with them Cats: no history, will need slow introduction once I have successfully acclimated to my new environment
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
