Zara is a beautiful kitten (just look at that coat!) who came in with multiple pelvic fractures. She was on stool softeners and strict cage rest while she was healing. She has made a great recovery. Her fractures have healed, although she lost a little range of motion in her left hip (it doesn`t extend all the way). Her pelvic canal diameter is large enough to allow kitten stool to pass through, so she is not on any medication at this time. It is possible that her pelvis might not grow as much as it should due to the severe trauma. If this happens, and if she has trouble passing stools, she may need stool softeners, such as miralax, in her food.
Currently, Zara is very playful, and gets along with cats/kittens of all ages. She loves people, and will cuddle with you once she is worn out from playing.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
