Name: Ken
Nicknames: Kenny. Kenneth.
Sex: Male
Breed: Bully mix
Age: ~4.5 years
Weight:~46 lbs. He's a beefy, compact guy! Contrary to popular belief, he actually does not need to hit the gym every day to keep up this physique.
Before OMD: Found as a stray in the city park (he was more than thrilled to hop in the car with the officer who picked him up) and brought to the shelter, who then contacted us for help. Ken was emaciated, and had two large, deep wounds on his back end. Ken was initially hospitalized, and then shortly after, had a scrotal ablation and debridement and closure of his wounds. He healed and gained weight beautifully with frequent small, nutritious meals.
Where he’s Been: Ken was adopted this past spring to a loving family. Sadly, they feel their house is too busy. Ken is not able to relax with all the noise, foot traffic, young children visiting, and hustle and bustle in the neighborhood.
Key Descriptors: Exuberant. Silly. Aggressively loving. Extremely lovable and squeezable. Goofy. Snuggly. Stubborn....also: a toddler.
Catchphrases: Sublime! I am Kenough.
Energy level: Medium. You will often find him snoozing, but he also needs daily playtime and/or walks.
Anxiety level: High-ish depending on situation / environment. He will have "anxious energy" if there is a lot of noise around the home and yard or people coming in and out and he is very in tune with noises and often on high alert
Velcro level: High. He would like to be a literal part of you if that was an option. He follows his people from room to room and has FOMO if he isn't part of the action.
What we love: His little snorts and noises when he's trying to be the goodest boy and not bark, but he can't keep himself from talking. His pro cuddling skills. His total exuberance for life. Toys? Loves them. People? Adores them. Treats? Best thing ever invented.
What makes us laugh: Watching him look out at the world from a window for hours contemplating the meaning of life. His aggressive snorts when he is sniffing around. The way he rubs his back on the underside of furniture to scratch an itch.
What he knows: Sit. Wait. Go ahead. Down.
What he’s working on: How to find his calm in overstimulating situations. Leash manners, especially when he sees small creatures and fast moving things - he's a beefy, strong, stubborn boy and he will do best with a strong handler.
Not a fan of: Car rides. He is super excited to go in the car, but then gets very anxious and over-stimulated once the car starts moving. The good news is he does much better in the car if he is crated.
Dogs: Yes, if it's the right (medium-large) dog! He successfully lived with a senior male pittie in foster, and has made friends with a female pittie in his current neighborhood. Small dogs are an absolute no as he has shown prey drive.
Cats: Nope.
Kids: Older kiddos only. Chaotic, fast-moving, loud tiny humans incite his prey drive.
House-trained: Yes! He may have a few accidents as he's learning the new routine
Crate-trained: Yes, does great in his crate! He sleeps in it, and you simply have to tell him to "go to his crate" and he runs right over and waits for his treat.
Ideal Home: A quieter home with not a ton of foot traffic, and no young kiddos. Comfortability walking a strong dog and able to manage prey drive. Appreciation for silly, snuggly, not-the-brightest beefy block heads.
Ken is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you’re interested in adopting, please complete an application from our website.
