My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well hello there! I'm Nutmeg, and I have soooooo much to tell you about me and my crazy little life.

First off, let's just state the obvious, I am the absolute CUTEST, teeniest, little chubby bebe that's ever lived. My foster parents say I'm so cute, it hurts, and their nickname for me is just 'the baby'. I was actually found with my siblings as a tiny premie, no bigger than a human thumb, scattered and abandoned by our kitty mama in a yard. With help from some kind people, we found our way to Tenth Life, where a nursing mama, who had just had a litter of her own, lovingly took us in without hesitation. That's why our names are different from the rest of our siblings (be sure to check them out at the end of my bio)! I was definitely the runt of the family, and I'm still very wee to this day. Everything I do is in miniature, and it's beyond precious. In fact, a vet tech once called me extremely scoopable.

You may notice in my pictures, I have some quirky eyes. I've had a few visits with very nice ophthalmologists, and they determined I'm blind in my left eye and have glaucoma and a couple other funky things in there. I also have glaucoma in my right eye, but I do currently still have vision in it. I may eventually have total vision loss, but that's really not as big a deal as you may think! I've been on prescription eye drops for a few months, and they've done a fantastic job keeping my symptoms at bay. I'm a good girl and take my eyedrops very easily. Down the road, if my drops become ineffective, there is a chance I may need eye removal surgery, but for now, I'm doing well, and they just need monitoring for changes. Please note that I have a follow up appointment with my eye doctor mid-November and can't go to my forever home until that is completed.

Enough of the buzzkill... time for more good stuff! I love to give and receive affection. My 'ohhhh yaaaassss' spots are my neck and top of my head. When I get my eyedrops, I often think it's cuddle time and try to fall asleep in your arms.

Now, let's talk about the other elephant in the room. I do have feline leukemia virus (FeLV), but please don't write me off just yet! Let me tell you about it. Having FeLV, I will need my family to keep a very close eye on my health. This means watching for any changes in behavior, eating, drinking, or bathroom habits, physical changes anywhere on my body... no observation is too small with FeLV, and my family should get guidance from my veterinarian whenever you notice anything. My immune system can be more fragile than a cat without FeLV, so when something comes up, it's important to act fast to avoid compounding symptoms. FeLV is only contagious to other cats, so if I have a feline buddy, they should also be FeLV-positive. I'll promise you one thing - FeLV has no hold on how much I'll love my family and how much joy we'll bring to each other's lives!

My siblings and I are little warriors. Our surrogate kitty mama, who graciously took us in, unexpectedly passed away when we were only a week and a half old, and we battled and defeated many health issues as tiny neonates. We were dealt a lousy hand at life, but we have overcome every obstacle and become happy, vibrant kittens, full of life and personality. We'll continue to thrive with the love from our future families.

I'd love a chance to show you how amazing a unique kitty like me can be, and I'd be thrilled to be adopted with any of my six other littermates (Arial, Basil, Comic Sans, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Wingdings)! Hope to snuggle you soon!

More about this rescue

Tenth Life's Mission:
Giving cats the lives they deserve.
At Tenth Life, we believe that every cat, regardless of emotional or physical limitations, deserves the chance at a fulfilling and happy life.
We provide veterinary care, foster homes, and adoptive placement to stray cats and kittens, prioritizing those with special needs. We work to end unnecessary euthanasia and cat homelessness through educational outreach, community programs, and collaborative partnerships.

Only when a trusted veterinarian determines that a cat is in a state of incurable suffering, does Tenth Life relieve them of their pain through gentle and humane euthanasia. This difficult and thoughtful decision is never made in response to a lack of space, negative behaviors, or because a cat's medical needs are challenging or expensive.
