Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Scarlett !!
This girl is absolutely stunning. A beautiful and sweet girl. Please be sure to read her entire post before messaging us. If we can tell you did not take the time to even read about her to see if she fits your family then we will know you are not a serious adopter.
Scarlett is an almost 2 year-old, female. She is a purebred Irish Setter. She weighs 60 pounds. She will be vaccinated, microchipped and spayed as part of her adoption.
She has been fantastic with all other dogs she’s met. She loves to run and play all over the back yard with them. She has been really good with taking cues from other dogs on how and when they want to play. We do not know how she would do with cats.
Scarlett has not been fostered with kids since she arrived to us. She is not at all aggressive and we do not think she would intentionally hurt a child; we do see some behaviors that we feel would not be a great fit with younger children.
When excited she can be extremely hyper. This is not all the time and doesn’t last long however, she can be a lot in those moments. When first out of the crate in the morning or when you return home, she is overly excited. Behaviors include jumping all over you, barking, and she will put her entire mouth on your arm or hand. She has torn clothing so it’s not a pleasant experience when it happens.
This is not aggression but it is something that may accidentally hurt a child or be mistaken for a bite. After a few minutes this hyper energy subsides and she is much calmer and able to listen and be more well behaved. This is trainable and she will learn. She is taking correction well and figuring out what not to do.
Scarlett’s energy level is very mixed. She has crazy hyper moments as described above. She will run around the yard for a bit and then she becomes more snuggly and calmer. She has two modes, crazy hyper and chill. She will need a fully fenced in yard at least 6ft tall so she can run off those crazy energy moments. She can and will jump a shorter fence.
She does really well with her basic house manners. She has done fantastic with potty training. She is great on car rides but needs to be tethered unless you want her in your lap while you are driving. She is crate trained and has no trouble staying crated during a normal work day. She is wild when you return so you need to make sure you have an outlet for that energy. She would prefer to sleep in bed with you but can sleep in her crate. She has not messed with anything in the house so far when left out of the crate alone. She is working on leash training but currently still pulls when excited.
We have not seen any issues with her sharing toys, treats or food with humans or other animals. She will occasionally see if she can grab any goodies off the counter tops.
Scarlett loves to jump up on you and give you a giant hug. She also loves to play fetch and just hang out with you. She will lay by you while you watch TV or go on an adventure with you. She loves being outside and enjoying the sights and smells.
She is a truly beautiful dog and she is very sweet. She will need a family that can work on her training and give her that energy outlet that she needs.
She also came to us with hair mats from lack of brushing/grooming. With the long hair there will be additional upkeep to make sure that does not happen again.
Vet and home checks required.
6ft or higher fully fenced yard required
Located in Hampton VA.
(She will need to be adopted within a 1-hour drive radius)
