My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Winston is a 3 year old Boston Terrier that weighs about 35lbs. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and on heart worm prevention.

"I'm Winston! I was roaming around Nashville and a really nice lady found me and rescued me. I have spent the last 5 months with my 2 Foster Moms and a dog brother and dog sister.

I went to the vet and they said I was healthy, except that I have idiopathic seizures. I even had an MRI to make sure I didn't have encephalitis or a brain tumor. I take medicines a couple times a day for the seizures. Thankfully I am the best eater so my Foster Mom doesn't even have to give me a treat with it! These medications control my seizures for the most part and will cost around $115 dollars per month. When I do have them, they are very short and not as scary as when it first happened. My adopter will need to take me to a neurology vet once a year for checkups. I currently see Dr House at Nashville Vet Specialists, and she takes great care of me and tells everyone what medicine I should take. An ideal adopter would only leave Winston alone for short periods of time, due to his seizures.

I am a sweet boy who is non-reactive to everything I have been exposed to. I have gotten along well with every person and dog that I have met so far!  I do not get upset about toys or food. I do like to play and can nip when I get really excited, so its best I go to a forever home without kids. I am crate trained and mostly housetrained, and will only have accidents once in a while.

I am content to be on my own the majority of the time. I know how to use the dog door really well and I spend a lot of time outside in the yard so I would love to have a fenced in yard to play in. I don't get on the furniture much, but I will absolutely come sit beside you and let you know I want to be petted! I am also really good at telling you when its time to eat and I will make sure you know it too :) I am very smart and will let you know when I need something! I do well on car rides and know how to walk on leash. Please consider adopting me as your forever friend. I have a lot of love to give and I'm a special boy!"

If you would like to give Winston his forever home, please submit an application at southerncrossbtr.com. The adoption fee is $375. He is being fostered in Huntingdon, TN. Approved adopters must be willing to travel to where the dog is being fostered in order to adopt them.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees:

6 to 12 months $425
13 months to 3 years $375
4 years to 7 years $350
8 years and older $250

The first step in the adoption process is to fill out the application at southerncrossbtr.com. Before filling out an application it is recommended that you visit the informational pages on this site to determine whether or not a rescued Boston Terrier is for you. The application is quite extensive so be prepared to spend some time filling out answers to ALL the questions. It is necessary that you fill out every possible field. Unfinished applications will not be considered. A completed application is indicative of a genuinely interested adopter, and only these will be considered. Only leave blank the questions that do not apply to you, and type "Not Applicable" where you can in the answer fields to these questions.

When you have completed the online form, click the "submit" button at the bottom and your application will be sent to someone on the board of the rescue to be reviewed. This member will contact your veterinarian (if applicable) and verify your information. If all questions have been answered and the information on your application has been verified by a veterinarian, your application will then go before the board to be considered. If the board approves the application, you will be contacted to schedule a home visit. Please be patient as this process can take up to two weeks. Applications are handled on a first come, first serve basis.

If your application has been accepted, someone will contact you to arrange a home visit. During the home visit, a member of our board will conduct a brief inspection of your home and a personal interview. Please do not feel intimidated by this step in the process. The home visit is not conducted to judge anyone on anything other than that the home is safe and suitable for a dog. The visit is brief and helps us to determine the dog that would best fit your environment.

The findings from the home visit and in-person interview are then submitted back to the board. A decision will be made at this point as to whether or not the dog that has been applied for is a good match for the applicant's lifestyle and environment. If it is determined that a specific dog is not a good match for an applicant, another dog may be recommended to you.

Once all of these steps have been completed, you may come to the foster home and pick up your new family member and pay his/her adoption fee. This includes altering, microchip, shots, fecal and heartworm test, de-worming, as well as any other necessary procedures. The dog will be current on a monthly heartworm medication.

The adoption process usually takes about two weeks to complete. Due to the massive amount of e-mail we receive, you will only be contacted by us if you are approved. Please try and avoid emails regarding your application status for at least two weeks as it only slows down the process. The adoption process may seem lengthy or even extreme, but we assure you that each step is as necessary as the next in finding these precious dogs the best possible homes, and finding each applicant the best suited Boston Terrier.

Go meet their pets

Foster homes will communicate with potential adopters about each foster. Potential adopters may see if foster homes will meet with them to see the dog but it isn't required for the foster home to do so. First meeting is the day you go with the intensions of adopting the Boston. The day of meeting is the day you can adopt the foster if you have been approved.
