Dog Name: Fenix
Breed: Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 2
Weight: 60 lbs
Medical Needs: Fenix is scheduled for acl surgery on his right rear knee on 11/20/24 at Eastern Shore Animal Hospital in Laurel with admission at 9am. Getting him to his appointment on time is a condition to his adoption. In addition, recuperation could be lengthy and require a crate, leashing even with a fenced yard and a follow up appointment.
Housebroken: Yes
Crate trained: Fenix loves his crate. It is his safe space.
Good in the car: Yes
Good on a leash: Yes
Energy level: Low but that could change after he recuperates from knee surgery.
Need a fenced in yard: Not necessarily but he does love to explore on his own.
Dog Friendly: Yes, he loves other dogs.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? It would be beneficial for Fenix to have a buddy to help his confidence.
Cat Friendly? NA
Kid Friendly: NA
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed? Because quick movements tend to startle him, older dog saavy children, 10+, would be best for him.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
When I first met Fenix, I thought him to be a fearful dog, having come from a shelter that was recently shut down because the owner was charged with aggravated animal cruelty. But in reality, Fenix is just a very quiet, shy, insecure dog who is only fearful when sudden movements are made towards him and even that, in the right environment, could fade away over time. As he becomes more comfortable, he becomes your shadow. Fenix spends a lot of time relaxing in his crate but if I'm walking around the house, he is happy to walk with me. Outside, he loves playing with the other dogs but if he sees me walking towards the door, he is right there with me. Fenix would do best in a quiet household, hopefully with a canine buddy. With time and patience, this guy will be your faithful companion for life.
