My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Callie is available and ready to find her match!

This stunning pup was left on the streets of Chapala, Mexico. She had parked herself outside the gates of a home, and every time the gates opened, she would cheerfully invite herself in!  Constructions workers in the area were feeding her scraps from their lunches, and others would leave kibble and water.  She finally charmed her way into the home, where the kind rescuer decided to foster her until a home could be found.

So this is what we know about Callie, straight from her rescuer:

Callie is extremely high energy during the day, sleeps through the night. She is housetrained and iskennel trained. She can be left kenneled up to 6 hours with no accidents and no sign of anxiety issues. She has had a one month "board and train program" for basic obedience and greater social skills with humans and other dogs.  At her foster home she lives with 7 other rescue dogs of various sizes and breeds. She plays well with a disabled Malinois and a smaller Dachshund mix but play can get quite rowdy. She gets the most exercise from ball playing. She is “Chuck It” ball obsessed and fetches well. Won’t touch a tennis ball however.

She could be trained for scent work based on how she searches for the ball. She may also be a candidate for flyball. I have done some work with her on agility and she is capable but would prefer any game that involves a ball.

We don't recommend placing her with cats, rabbits or any extremely small dogs as she has significant prey drive.

She plays quite rough so would do well with another dog who also enjoys tumbling.  Callie has been with children but not lived with children. Based on her exuberance, she would do best with older children.

Callie is a happy dog, travels well in the car, good on leash but needs to be managed for introductions to new dogs. She is responsive to verbal corrections on behavior when off leash with new dogs. She will be owner protective and will do best with someone who is experienced with a German Shepherd, Doberman or similar dog and would be dedicated to continued training. She is smart, but can be stubborn. Fortunately she is highly food motivated.

With the right person, Callie is going to make an incredibly devoted dog.  If she sounds like a fit for you and you have experience with this or similar breed mix, then please apply today!
