My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Lux, a big-hearted pup who’s all about love and fun! This gentle giant adores people of all ages, though his enthusiasm means he might accidentally bump into little ones, so gentle supervision with small children is recommended. Lux is a friendly, tail-wagging bundle of joy who wants nothing more than to be close to you—he would be in heaven snuggling up on the couch with his head or even his whole body on your lap!

Lux is a playful spirit who loves any toy he can get his paws on. As a growing puppy, he’s still learning which things are okay to chew on, and supervision will help him while his puppy teeth come in. His eagerness for treats makes training a breeze; watching him figure out how long he has to sit before a treat is his is both funny and endearing. He’ll sit, stand, and sit again, always ready for another treat! Lux is super food-motivated, so with consistency, his training is a piece of cake.

Play, nap, eat, and repeat is Lux’s happy routine. He settles quietly in his crate after a couple of minutes and keeps it clean for up to eight hours, sleeping soundly through the night. Lux loves to play with the resident dogs in his foster home and would thrive with a playful dog friend in his new home. He’s also great with cats, giving them a friendly sniff before moving on. While he hasn’t seen a cat running yet, he might find it exciting and want to join in the chase, so a little supervision would be good.

Lux is a playful pup who has no idea how large he is, and he is still growing!! He would love a home that would provide him with both physical exercise and mental stimulation and continue with his obedience training. Although he loves all dogs he has met, he doesn't yet know when enough play time is enough, so it is important he is around other dogs that treat him fairly when play time is over. Lux loves to cuddle and eat, and being super food motivated he wants to do whatever you ask him to. He is the type of dog who wants to not only go on a hike with you for an adventure but also snuggle up at the end of the day and watch TV.

With his big, square head and expressive eyes, Lux has a way of melting hearts with just a tilt of his head. This sweetheart has a face full of personality and a gentle soul that shines through. He’s a joy to be around, and with his friendly, cuddly nature, he’s ready to bring endless love and happiness to his forever family.

Lux is from a local reservation. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.

*Rescue puppies are notorious for losing their birth certificates before entering our rescue. We cannot guarantee the breed or size they will be full grown.*

If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based rescue, meaning no animals are available at the Princeton, MN office for public viewing or adoption. All animals in our care reside in foster homes with few special exceptions for our adoption center animals, who are housed at our partnering facilities temporarily before adoption. To meet a Ruff Starter you may be interested in adopting, please submit an adoption application on our website.

More about this rescue

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit companion animal rescue that primarily serves communities throughout the state of Minnesota, as well as states in the south with severe pet overpopulation. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other critters. Most of our work is accomplished by a complex network of volunteers, fosters, and supporters, all of whom come together to save thousands of animals each year.

Since our inception, we’ve firmly believed that a home is usually a far more desirable environment than a shelter or a kennel for most companion animals in need of a forever family. As a result, we rely nearly exclusively on volunteers to provide foster homes for rescued pets until they find their adoptive homes. Please note: this means no animals are available at our facility for public viewing.

Each pet in our care is provided with routine vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, microchipped, given internal and external parasite preventatives, and tested for common bloodborne pathogens such as heartworm and feline leukemia. Advanced veterinary care is provided to any animal that requires such services before adoption.

If you are interested in fostering, adopting, or volunteering, please fill out an applicable application at our website: www.ruffstartrescue.org.
