My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BUTTERMILK NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!

Name: Buttermilk          Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd/Mountain Cur mix

Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of September 2024        SEX:   Male

Approximate Weight:  45 lbs

Gets Along With:   Buttermilk does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but he can be tested.

Special Adoption Considerations: Because Buttermilk is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Buttermilk in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.

Currently Living at:   DC area foster home

Buttermilk is Looking For:   His forever family! He's got all that awesome young-dog energy and is eager to have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and exploring the world - he hasn't seen nearly enough of it. He'd love to make pup pals along the way, too. But you know what he wants most of all? To know where he belongs, to know he's safe and loved for all his days.

What My Foster Says About Me:  Buttermilk is a big sweetheart. He lives with our two dogs in his foster home and he loves to play with them and give them kisses! He walks well with his foster siblings around the neighborhood and is making great progress on a leash. Once inside, he loves to be right by our dogs - playing or napping with them. He is learning how to play with squeaky toys and bones. He is a big fan of yummy treats and hopes his forever home will have lots of those. He does well in his crate and uses it as a comfy place to relax and snuggles up inside at night. He gives gentle kisses to his humans once he's comfortable and he has the biggest and fastest tail wags you'll ever see when he sees a canine friend.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
