JACK NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Come meet Jack and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Nov. 17th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Falls Church (6100 Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!

Name:
Jack        Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and retriever mix

Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of October 2024         SEX:  Male

Approximate Weight:   65 lbs

Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids but he can be tested. We do not recommend him for a home with cats.

Currently Living at:   DC area boarding partner  -- needs foster or forever home!

Jack is Looking For:  His forever home. Through no fault of his own, this VERY GOOD BOY ended up in the shelter. He's well out of the puppy yips and knows what's most important in life - being safe and loved and under his own roof. He's ISO his own humans for long sniffy walks and world exploration. But more than any of that - he wants to once again be a loyal companion, to know where he belongs.

What do you say? Is Jack the one you see by your side? Are you his new chapter?

What My Foster Says About Me:
Jack is a dream.  He’s super smart and responsive to training.  He’s great with people and other dogs.  He keeps us smiling and laughing when he plays, and he loves to snuggle and gaze into your eyes.

Jack was a little skittish at first, but that’s seems to have passed. He’s been great in the car and eating / sleeping in his crate from day one.  And after just a week, he is doing really well going potty outside, sitting, making eye contact, lying down, being polite when his people are eating, and keeping a loose leash on walks - even when there are exciting sights, smells, people, dogs and wildlife around!  He’s getting the hang of “settle” and staying calm when visitors come to the door, so it’s time to pick up some new tricks!

Jack has done really well meeting all sorts of people and dogs at adoption events, at home and on walks.  When he first arrived, he tended to pull a lot when we saw people and dogs on walks - he was just so excited. But in just a few days of training treats and patience, has almost completely stopped pulling, and when he does, he quickly remembers to stop, sit and make eye contact.  At the adoption event, he did a great job politely meeting dogs and people of all sizes. He made us really proud.

Jack loves his quacking duck and rolls around on his back with it in his mouth.  He also loves tennis balls.  He doesn’t quite fetch (we haven’t tried to teach him), but he’ll run after a ball, then do zoomies and play what I think of as one-dog soccer, tossing the ball and chasing after it over and over.  It’s adorable and hilarious at the same time.  He’s also getting really good at the muffin tin game, and learning to catch treats in the air.  Oh, and he did post-bath zoomies the other day - a joy to see.

Finally, Jack is a Grade A snuggler.  He loves to cuddle close and sit in your lap if you are on the floor with him. He also likes to rest his head on your leg or arm, and often gazes at you with soft eyes that melt your heart.  He’s does a bit of the lab lean, showing he loves and trusts you.  He’s a real sweetie who is going to make someone very, very lucky.

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
