My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Samoa has been returned to SSR 10-2024 for not being a good fit for the family. She is in need of a foster or adopter now. Samoa is a happy dog who tends to be a bit shy at first. She loves to play outside and run around, a fenced yard will make her dreams come true. Samoa is extremely treat motivated and will show all her tricks with ease when treats are involved. Samoa enjoys playing with other dogs, slow introductions will be best. She did do well for her cat testing. Samoa walks well on her leash walks and rides great in the car. This petite lady is loyal to her people and can be protective of them. She will "talk" to and curl up next to the ones she trust the most. Samoa is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, housebroken, and crate trained. She is needing to find her person! More information to come as we get to know her better.

Samoa was surrendered by her owner in Texas 4/10/2020 along with her mom, Gingersnap, and siblings Biscotti and Churro. She is an active puppy and is very food motivated. She is getting along amazingly with a large, full grown foster, but is a little mouthy with a smaller dog. A patient adopter will help in her "inside manners" and continued work on potty training.  She will need more work with a leash, lead. She's not a fan yet, but she amazes us on the progress she's made in the short time.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step to adopt one of our dogs is to complete an adoption application. Once you have submitted your application, a volunteer with call your personal and veterinary references. Following references, SSR will send out a volunteer to conduct a home visit and meet any members of your household. We come to your home and further discuss the adoption process.

The adoption application will let us know a little bit about you, your home, your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a companion. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to fill out our application to adopt one of our dogs. Your application will either be accepted or denied after the volunteer submits a home visit report.

ADOPTION FEES
There is a non-refundable application fee of $15.
Our adoption fee is $300 for dogs aged 6 and under.
Our adoption fee is $225 for dogs 7 and up.

More about this rescue

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue is an all-volunteer rescue focused primarily on the rescue of German Shepherds. We are based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, but expand our reach and work to save German Shepherds in heavily populated areas throughout the country.
