October 20, 2024 Meet Addie (shorthair black female) and Party (gray longhair female) in their new video! These sweet sisters are a matched set, full of affection and so happy to finally be safe, snuggly and well fed. Party is the third sibling mentioned in the original story below.

September 23, 2024 UPDATE ON MAMA CAT & 2 BABIES RESCUED! The mama cat and 2 babies that I trapped that were living behind Advance Auto in Hampstead are doing OK.  They were living in and out of the dumpster.  I would see them on my way home from FURR at night and with NO other rescue interested in saving feral cats, I just had to save them, I have so many black shorthair cats.

The cat family was starving and living very close to Hwy. 17!  Surely they would die soon from starvation, parasites, disease, cars or coyotes.  They really didn’t have a chance to survive there.

Mama (single black kitty in a crate) is very feral.  I can barely pet her while she is hissing at me.  I took her to Sound Cat, our vet, to be spayed, shots, microchipped, etc.  She recovered in a cage at FURR for a week and then I moved her out to our sanctuary.  She has a slight head tilt, so I can always know which one she is.  The vet said this could be from head trauma or from being hit by a car, etc.  Who knows, but she is eating and pooping normally.

The 2 kittens (2 black kitties shown together) went to the vet for exam and 1st shots.  They are TERRIFIED.  They are 2 little girls about 12 weeks old, but the smaller one, “TOTO” is way underweight and REALLY feral.  The larger kitten, “Addie” is a little less scared.

Doc Rockwell informed me that TOTO has cataracts!  We don’t know how much she can see which may be part of her fear. I need to schedule an appointment with the animal eye specialist to see if TOTO can be helped at all.

I’m syringe feeding them because they don’t want to eat. Meanwhile, they are safe at FURR and I’m doing my best to care for them.

I’m really scared there may be more siblings, so I’m setting traps every am and pm keeping a close watch just in case.

September 1, 2024 Watch this video of this little kitty mama finally enjoying some good food along with Terry’s encouragement. Here is their story …

I saw a cat and babies a couple weeks ago in a Hampstead store parking lot.  You can imagine my thoughts of horrible things happening to them.

I put out food and water and went back every night to feed them, while wondering why I am the ONLY person that sees these things! They seemed to disappear after a couple of days, but I still kept putting food and water out every night.

Yesterday, I joined my husband and friends for dinner before a final check on FURR for the night. It was about 11:30 pm when we were on the way home and the Mom and babies were in the parking lot scrounging around the dumpsters. I went back to FURR to get traps and I waited until I caught mom and 1 baby!

Tonight, I got a second baby and I do believe there is a third. I’ll be back again tomorrow night to try for the last kitten. I feel so bad knowing it’s all alone out there!

Mom is VERY tiny and probably no more than 6 months old. The babies are probably around 3-4 months old. They are all black and otherwise just skin and bones – literally starving. I also managed to get flea/worm medicine on all three.

More about this rescue

F.U.R.R. is a small, non-profit organization made up of volunteers that have rescued and helped hundreds of cats that were in dire need and had no other humans to turn to. These include injured cats, sick cats, feral cats, cats whose owners had died without making arrangements for their pets, abandoned cats that were left when their owners moved, homeless mom cats with kittens, homeless kittens whose mom cat had died…the list goes on and on. Basically they are mostly homeless and unwanted cats that would have been euthanized in a shelter, died on the streets from an illness or accident, or continued to reproduce and add to the cat overpopulation problem.

Not only has F.U.R.R. helped the cats, but we've also helped many people in our community, people who have feral or stray cats overpopulation problems. Equally important is that many, many F.U.R.R. rescued kitties have been adopted and are now safe and loved!

Our cats and kittens are adopted to families and individuals to approved homes. An interview and a completed adoption application are required, and you will have the opportunity to meet the cat or kitten you are interested in. All applications will be carefully screened, and veterinary and personal references will be called.

All F.U.R.R. cats and kittens have been tested for FIV, FeLV, heartworms, and have been treated for parasites (fleas, worms, ear mites). They also receive distemper/combo vaccinations, a 1 year rabies vaccination, and are already spayed or neutered if old enough.

There is an adoption fee but this is a very small price to pay for a fully vetted cat or kitten, and the love you will receive from your new kitty!

Some of our kitties are residing in foster homes, but most of them live in the F.U.R.R. rescue facility, while they are waiting to be adopted. If you would like to meet a particular cat, or would like to meet several of the kitties, please contact Terry at adoptafurrcat@gmail.com to arrange a visit to meet the kitties.

You can also visit us at our web site at http://www.catfurr.org.
