My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Animal Profile: Bear is a 6-month-old, pocket sized Cattle Dog mix. With his playful paws and meerkat skills, we suspect there may be some Spitz breeds in the mix. Bear is house and crate trained, and working on his basic manners. He has mastered sit and is working on other commands and leash manners.

Foster Update:

All in all he is a sweet little guy and cute as can be! He seems to be fully house trained, stands at the door or gives a little “yip” when wanting to go out. He’s done well in the crate at night, goes directly in with a treat and settles down quickly.

He does jump a bit but also knows “off”, so this has not been an issue for us. He is a bit hesitant with new people but warms up quickly.  Bear  is a little nervous in the car so we are trying to take him for short rides when possible which I’m seeing some improvement already.

Bear  is VERY treat motivated and smart! He knows several commands including sit, down, off, wait and is learning to “shake paws”. He’s a quick learner! He definitely has some puppy energy because, well he’s a puppy! He occupies himself with appropriate chew bones and toys and likes to busy himself de-stuffing every possible toy in the pile. While he can be active, I do not consider it excessive in the least. In fact for a 6 month old puppy, he is really pretty great!

He does fairly well on leash but tends to be nervous and vocal with passing dogs. He definitely needs to build some confidence when out in the world. I feel he lacks exposure and confidence so we will work on both and continue to work on his reaction to dogs outside the home (he was immediately fine with my resident golden).

At full growth,  Bear  will be less than 20lbs so can fit into a variety of home and lifestyles. He is big enough for hiking and probably has the energy to be a running companion but, is also pretty content sleeping in his bed or laying on the floor at my feet after a good bout with all the stuffies! He can be a bit mouthy as most puppies his age but is not a biter. Dog savvy kids should be fine with him as long as there is consistency in his training to curb the mouthiness and his tendency to jump. He is not a nuisance barker, but does raise the alarm if he notices/hears something out of the ordinary so a consideration for apartment/condo applicants.
