My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hank is a sweetheart of a puppy that loves to play and snuggle. He is approximately 4 months old, and has the best little happy personality. He is curious about everything. So far loud noises are the only thing we have found that he is scared of (lawnmower, train, fireworks) and zoomies from other dogs confuse him. He sits and stares with his little head cocked sideways until they finish and then he is ready to jump in and play.

His favorite toys so far are ropes and shoes but we are working to curb the shoe fetish. Bones and the ears of his foster brother are also fair game for chewing. Hank will pick up sticks during his daily walks and happily carry them for a while until something else catches his eye. His is comfortable in a harness and leash when walking, but needs continued work on his manners.

Hank is still underweight and we are feeding frequently to try and beef him up. He is currently around 40 pounds. He loves food and treats, and responds well to treat training so far.

He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and is excited to meet them all. He also loves all the people he meets. We have taken him on pack walks in the neighborhood and on a few public outings and he has done well. He has been comfortable at the vet’s office so far and all the techs and vets have adored him.

Hank is comfortable in his crate. He eats and rests in it, and sleeps in it at night. He is sleeping up to six hours at night before needing a bathroom break.

Housebreaking is coming along. We let him out frequently and he knows to use the bathroom outside. However if he has to go and we don’t catch it he will still go in the house. Hank is being fostered in Pilot Mountain NC.  A fenced yard and giant breed experience is required.  If interested in giving Hank a forever home you can email us at info@greatdanefriends.com for an application!

*****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. We require a fenced yard (exceptions made on a case by case basis - NO exceptions for puppies or deaf/vision impaired dogs - no invisible fencing), that stairs in the home be covered with some sort of slip resistant material to prevent injury, that all other animals in the home be up to date on vaccinations as well as spayed/neutered and that all dogs live inside as a part of the family. Our approval process consists of an application, vet and reference checks, phone interview and house check. Please email us for an application or if you have any questions.*****

More about this rescue

Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love was started by a group of volunteers dedicated to saving Danes and other dogs, especially dogs that may be passed up by other rescues due to special needs. We are an extension of Ruff Love Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Thomasville, NC.
