My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the enchanting Esmeralda! She is sure to be your new best friend!

Esmeralda is a very loving and loyal girl, and she has won over all our hearts. She enjoys meeting new people and will show them love right away! All she wants in life is be with her human friends – if her friends have treats for her too, that’s even better. This charming girl makes the cutest little grunts and grumbles when she wants something. It’s impossible to say no to Esmeralda’s sweet, expressive eyes!

On walks, Esmeralda is an absolute dream and has wonderful leash skills! She enjoys going at a leisurely pace so she can sniff things along the way, and she happily stays right by your side. When she’s back inside, she enjoys a little playtime with her favorite toys, but she is generally a calm pup and settles herself down incredibly well. Esmeralda also stays quite relaxed on car rides.

  • Esmeralda would probably be a great fit for most families.

*The ASPCA Adoption Center encourages a $150 suggested adoption fee when adopting an animal. This suggested adoption fee allows the ASPCA to continue our lifesaving work and help even more animals in need. We are grateful for any and all amounts given at the time of adoption.*

**The ASPCA is committed to prioritizing the health and safety of the community, the animals in our care and our staff, and we are keeping a close eye on developments related to the COVID-19 crisis as they evolve. As such, the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City is currently closed for in-person visitors. However, we are excited to offer remote adoptions using video conferencing! In-person meet-and-greets are also sometimes available or required for specific animals. Please check out our available cats and dogs above, and if one catches your eye, apply directly for him or her. An ASPCA Matchmaker will let you know if the animal you are interested in adopting is eligible for or requires an in-person meet-and-greet.

Please note: Adoption applications are handled in the order they are received and submitting an adoption survey does not constitute a hold or guaranteed adoption. You can expect to receive automated emails updating you on your adoption status as our Matchmakers go through applications. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you find your match!**

More about this shelter

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. Our organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, we are recognized as a national animal welfare organization. We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and proud to boast more than 1 million supporters across the country.
