My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! I’m Sugar, a 7 month old, 31 pound, labrador retriever. I
was rescued off the streets of Texas after someone tried poisoning me
and my friends. I am now safe in Michigan loving life with my foster
mom in Battle Creek, but I can’t wait to find my forever family!

Since I am still a pup, there are times when I get short bursts of
energy and run around real fast in the backyard or in the house, but I
take a lot of naps too! I still chew things sometimes, but I am  working
on making sure it’s only my toys and not someone’s shoes or my
leash. I am pretty calm most of the time, but I do jump on occasion
when I get excited meeting a new friend. I don’t mind being in my
crate during the day, but I love snuggling up to my human at night in
bed. I love walks and playing outside. The crunchy leaves on the
ground are a lot of fun to eat! Sometimes I spend my nights chasing
and eating my tail. If you have errands to run, I love riding along!

If you are looking for a super sweet, mostly chill puppy, I would love
to meet you! I love kids and don’t mind cats. I might take a bit to
warm up to a new dog friend and I would thrive best in a fenced in
yard where I can freely run around. I am fully-vetted, microchipped,
and my adoption fee is $350.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require that the interested adopter come to meet the dog and then fill out an adoption application. We will review the application and then pass on to the dog's foster family (if applicable). We then contact the potential adopter's vet and we will also do a home visit. If all goes well, the adopter signs our adoption contract stating that, among other things, the dog will receive regular vet care and must be returned to us if things do not work out.

More about this rescue

We focus primarily on rescuing senior and special needs dogs in kill facilities. We are located on 30 acres of land in rural southern Michigan. We are a care-for-life facility, so any dog that does not or that we deem cannot be adopted will live with us for the rest of his/her life. Because we rescue the dogs that are not in high demand, it normally takes our dogs longer to find that perfect family. We believe that it takes a special family to adopt our special dogs.
