My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Leaf! This gentle guy can be a bit shy at first but warms up quickly-especially if you have treats! When you bring out his favorite snacks, his tail starts wagging, and he loosens up, showing his playful side.

Leaf knows a few commands, like "sit" and "lay down," which he performs with a charming stillness. If you're looking for a loyal and easygoing friend who just needs a little extra love to feel at home, Leaf could be your new best friend.

Eligible for rescue and adoption. Meet (name) at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Behavioral notes
10/31/24 staff notes Leaf is a bit nervous with a tucked tail but had soft eyes. When I handed him some treats he opened up, wagging his tail and giving some nice hands kisses. I came back to him after finishing boards and he came up and greeted me with a wagging tail and soft eyes. He allowed some pets through the bars and boops on his nose. -- BL

10/30/24 volunteer noted: 10/30/24 volunteer notes: Leaf gave abut of a hard stare when I approached kennel but took my treats, and I was able to leash by holding a hotdog through the loop. Once Leaf was leashed he did hesitate to actually leave the kennel and I had to do a hotdog trail, but once outside of the kennel, he did not look back. Outside, he is cautious and does lots of sniffing, but took treats from me gently and let me know that he knows "sit and some basic commands. He did want to go back inside and I think he feels safe in his kennel.

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs.
