Fancy Boots I just learned that I am an orphan. My owner and best friend recently passed away, and after living with him my whole life, my entire world seems to be upside down. I came to live at the HSHC at the beginning of September, and it has taken me all this time to feel more like myself. I am a 10-year-old black and white lady cat already spayed with excellent litterbox skills. My owner was elderly, so we did not have many visitors. I never learned how to welcome new people into our home, and the HSHC staff says I am undersocialized. I now live in a Roaming Room with other cats and was surprised to see how pleasant it is. I enjoy their company, and I`ve even gotten used to having people enter our room. Today, the interviewer lady (IL) opened the door, and I almost made a break for it! Instead, I stretched out onto my side before her to see what would happen. I let her pet me, and it was a lovely feeling. She told me my coat was silky soft, making her want to pet me some more. Even though I would wander around the room, sniffing my roommates and nibbling some food, I always came back to her for more pets. It took me several weeks to feel comfortable enough to move to the big room. I may always be a shy, retiring type of cat, but I know that given adequate time and space to settle into a new place, I will let my new human beings know how much I love and need them. 11-4-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
