Notes from his finder/foster: Pumpkin is the most loving dog you will ever meet. He is sweet and cuddly and loves everyone he meets. There is not a single bitter bone in his body. He will let you do anything with him. He lets me put Christmas pajamas on him and hold him up in pictures even though he weighs so much I think I strained my back. My roommates and I started fostering pumpkin when I was two days fresh out of a hard breakup. He slept with his head on my chest and cuddled with me the whole time. The most amazing part about pumpkin was that when we got him he was already potty trained and had never had a single accident. He is the most perfect dog. He loves meeting new people and became a celebrity on our college campus. We love bringing him to frat parties and he loves the attention. Random people started coming up to us on walks yelling pumpkins name. He is so famous. He is the best cuddler in the whole world and loves to just lay with you and snore really loud. You can tell when he’s having a dream because he sometimes kicks his legs like he’s running in his sleep. Pumpkin has the purest heart and is 100% best friend material.
He just eats his regular kibble. And he loves belly rubs. We haven’t noticed anything that he dislikes. He’ll let you do anything with him pretty much. He doesn’t play with toys much but he loves to lay on a big pile of clothes. He gets so excited when he goes on walks because he gets to meet new people. He goes potty immediately when you take him out which was a game changer when we had to take him out quickly early in the cold morning.
He is potty trained and has never had an accident in his time with me. We usually leave his food out and he eats it whenever he’s hungry. He knows sit and he loves his crate even though we prefer we cuddle in bed with us.

If you already know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov and let us know you want to go ahead and adopt. You can still meet the pet before finalizing the adoption to make sure they are a great fit for you.
Pets are adopted on a first-come-first-served basis and may be adopted very quickly. You can see the current status of available pets on our website. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of these pets will be updated back to "Available" if their original placement falls through. Our website automatically updates every hour and displays all pets at BAS Pet Adoption & Resource Center or foster.
Visitation and adoption of pets in foster must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. Email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit or adoption of a pet in foster care.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m

Closed on Sundays and Holidays
Pets receive vaccines, testing, and preventatives appropriate for their species and age, as well as any necessary treatments. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered. BAS adopters also receive exclusive discounts on food, veterinary care, training, and more through our partners. All this is included in the adoption!
Adoption fees are very low and are sometimes waived as part of regular adoption special events through out the year. To see our current adoption fees and specials, visit burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS. Our goal is to ensure every pet has a positive outcome and gets to live life with a loving family.
To take home a pet, adopters or fosters only need to present a government-issued photo ID and be at least 18 years old. There is NO lengthy paperwork to fill out and NO intrusive or lengthy process. Most pets can go home the same day, and we provide resources and ongoing support to help you and the pet make a smooth transition!
