My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Tuco was brought in by her previous owner.

At SDHS:
Tuco has been vaccinated, microchipped and is spayed. She is now ready for her new home!

Why Tuco might be the one for you:
This pretty calico is Tuco who is looking for her new home. In her previous home, Tuco showed that she truly wants to be the queen of her own castle. No other dogs, cats or little kids for Tuco. She takes a second to warm up to you, but will enjoy all the head scratches and cuddles that she can get once she trusts you. We can help you with resources and tips for working with shy cats, however we don't think she will stay shy for long. She has become a volunteer's favorite as she acts shy at first but when a treat is offered, her shyness changes to treat begging as she crawls onto the volunteer's lap and persists with head bunts for more petting and treats. Tuco is a soon to be full fledged lap cat. If Tuco has stolen your heart, stop by our San Diego Campus and ask about her today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
