My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Angel and Tiger are a bonded pair. They must be adopted together.***

Angel (black) and Tiger (tan & white) are sister and brother duo who are adoptable as a bonded pair.  Their owner who had become unhoused and knowing she needed to rehome them, reached out to our rescue for assistance.

Angel and Tiger are 3 yr old Shih Tzus who weigh about 10 pounds. They are young, happy and  active little dogs who are friendly and love to sit with their humans. They are crate-trained and doing well with house training if taken out on a regular schedule.  They are playful, but not hyper, and are good at entertaining themselves.  They have not been leash-trained yet.

Angel is more outgoing and loves to play with toys and retrieve the frisbee. She can be a little bossy and tries to run the show, but Tiger doesn’t mind. He has a quieter personality and is content to just be near his human or take a little nap.  Their personalities really do complement each other. Angel loves to do zoomies around the yard and Tiger is content to smell the flowers. They know their names and come when called, but they are small & quick around doorways.  These two could be a trip hazard for someone with balance issues.

Tiger has dry eye, which is not uncommon with Shih Tzus, so he’ll need Tacrolimus eye drops daily in both eyes. Tiger will come with 2 bottles of Tacrolimus which should last approximately 4 months. The average cost of a bottle is $75.  One bottle should last 60-70 days. Tiger is easy to administer eye drops to.

We are requiring that Angel and Tiger be adopted together. If there are any other dogs in the home, they will need to weigh no more than 15 lbs. Tiger gets along with all other dogs, but Angel has a strong personality and may need a few weeks to find her place in the home. Tiger needs a little time to become comfortable in his new home and trust his surroundings. They have to be fed separately because Tiger eats more slowly than Angel and she will bully him to try to get to his food.  Ideally, Angel and Tiger would be the only dogs in the home, but can coexist peacefully with another low-key small dog, preferably a Shih Tzu.

WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD. The secure fence must be 4ft or higher, gaps no larger than 1 1/2 inches, which is attached to the home. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing) it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions.

The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptions@gmail.com. There is an application process and adoption fee.

We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business.

Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports.

More about this rescue

Hart-2-Heart Rescue is a non-profit organization formed to rescue small mixed-breed and purebred dogs who would otherwise fall between the cracks. Our focus is to provide a happy future for our foster dogs, to guarantee the care and support needed to ensure their full health of both mind and body. Everything we do is driven by the passionate belief that we can improve life for the dogs in our care regardless of their background, whether they are strays, abandoned, from puppy mills or shelters, or victims of unavoidable life circumstances.

Hart-2-Heart Rescue was established by co-founders Jennifer Hart and Judy Allen, long-time friends whose paths converged in the 1990’s. With complimentary skill sets and years of pet ownership, breed knowledge, training and behavioral expertise, and rescue experience, they joined forces to develop the model of home-fostered dogs. Hart-2-Heart Rescue was born of a dream and a sense of social responsibility to ensure that the foster dogs in our care are provided with necessary medical, social and life skills that will enable them to develop to their full potential.

Joined by a group of dedicated volunteers, Hart-2-Heart’s goal is to successfully match each dog with the right family as well as to match each family with the right dog. Our volunteers give freely of their time, resources and love to provide an in-home experience for each of our foster dogs. Our rescues live as an integrated member of our families in our homes, where they’re taught the skills and joys of daily living. We ensure that adoptions are for life by determining a suitable match and by providing on-going support to adoptive families.

Hart-2-Heart Rescue is an all-volunteer charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Greensboro, North Carolina. We do not have a physical shelter because our adoptable dogs live in foster homes. Our dream is to help dogs find the right home and bring joy to the people who adopt them; our expertise is in doing so.
