My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Do you love playing catch, adventure, snuggles, and making new friends So does Smokey !!!

Meet Smokey - a 6-7 mo/40 lb super friendly Australian Shepherd mix. He has been fantastic with the kids in his foster home and he LOVES hanging out with other dogs!

This smart & active pup is crate-trained, dies well on the leash and is ready for any outdoor adventure, happily hopping into the car for a ride whenever he gets the chance

He’s mastered commands like “sit,” “wait,” and “fetch,” even catching treats mid-air, and he responds perfectly to “no.” With his love for treats, he picked up training in no time, especially the “wait” command - he is a smarty pants!

Smokey is very much a herding breed dog. His breed mix & instincts make him playful yet gentle, and he has been endlessly patient with all the transitions going on while moving into his foster home. He will need a home that is familiar with herding breed dogs, that is open to doing training, socialization and giving adequate exercise to make him a good canine citizen. He is a quick learner, bath-time friendly, and loves to settle down nearby for a nap when you’re relaxing

Ready for a best friend who’s smart, loyal, and full of love? Smokey is waiting for you!

**herding breed/lg breed experience needed

More about this rescue

The Gals Best Pal Rescue Mission is to be a voice for the voiceless as it advocates for the dogs in its care while finding them safe, suitable, caring homes. The organization works with likeminded partners across the country and throughout the state of Massachusetts to rescue unwanted animals experiencing neglect, abuse, homelessness or at risk of euthanasia. The rescue also strives to make a difference for many unwanted dogs from different unfortunate situations. It does this by providing nurturing foster homes, promoting the importance of responsible dog ownership and, most importantly, spaying and neutering every dog that comes through the rescue as it aims to cut back on the overpopulation crisis occurring in many shelters and rescues across the nation.
