My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Stella!

Social Playful Smart Curious

Personality: Stella is a social and affectionate Great Dane who enjoys meeting new people and snuggling up with her favorite humans. Though she can be a little shy at first, she quickly warms up and shows off her playful side. Stella has a fun-loving personality, a gentle demeanor, and a playful spirit, making her a delightful companion for almost any family.

Socialness: Stella enjoys meeting new people but prefers to be the one to initiate greetings. She may be a bit shy at first but will be your new best friend in no time! Although she hasn't been around children, her gentle nature suggests that she would likely do well with kids. Slow and structured introductions will be necessary.

She also enjoys the company of other dogs and does not react to other dogs during walks. In her foster home, she has gotten along well with both the resident dogs and a cat, showing a healthy interest in play without any signs of aggression.

Likes & Dislikes: Stella enjoys walks, playing in the yard, and especially loves running and jumping into leaf piles. She adores squeaky stuffed toys and can often be seen throwing them around and having a good time.

Stella is sensitive to loud, angry voices and gets nervous around flapping flags or sheets on a line. She is also afraid of extra-large play balls, preferring more familiar toys and environments. Despite these few aversions, she is generally easygoing and rarely barks.

Training: Stella is well-trained and knows several commands, including "sit," "down," "stay," "come," "wait," "leave it," and "off." She is housebroken and crate-trained, with the added bonus of being trusted to free roam without causing any trouble. Stella walks well on a leash and getting in and out of the car is no problem for her. She is also a pro when it comes to grooming, as she tolerates nail trimming, ear cleaning, and bathing without any fuss.

Health: Stella is in good health, although she does experience seasonal allergies that are managed by taking Apoquel daily. During peak allergy season, she also requires medicated baths about once a week, which she tolerates well and even seems to enjoy. Stella has no other known health concerns and is otherwise a low-maintenance girl.

Forever Home Requirements: Stella would do best in a home where she can be a part of her family's daily activities, as she loves spending time with her people. She does not require a fenced yard but would benefit from a space where she can enjoy her playtime and chase after stuffed toys. Her forever family should be mindful of her allergy needs and willing to continue her treatment with Apoquel and regular medicated baths. Since Stella enjoys the company of other dogs, a home with another dog would be a bonus, but it's not a requirement. She has shown good behavior around cats and would do well in a household with a dog-savvy feline.

Stella is a wonderful, playful, and gentle girl who will thrive in a home that appreciates her silly personality and gentle nature. More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
