My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Big Smoke: Your Future Best Friend!

Age: 9 years and 7 months
Breed: Mixed
Weight: Currently working on it!

Big Smoke is a joyful, easygoing pup looking for a loving home to spend his golden years. This happy-go-lucky boy is ready to fill your life with laughter and companionship. While he's not overly interested in other dogs, he's not a fan of unfixed males, so a home with the right canine friends or as your one-and-only would be perfect!

Big Smoke could use a little help shedding some extra pounds, but with the right diet and a few leisurely walks, he's bound to thrive! His ideal home is one filled with love, patience, and the occasional treat (just a few, though!).

Big Smoke's mortal enemy is the "V" "E" "T" (shhh, he might hear us talking) but luckily he just had a senior wellness exam, including bloodwork, and hopefully won't need to go back anytime soon as our vets gave him a clean bill of health!

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will bring joy and warmth to your life, Big Smoke is your guy! Come meet him and see if you're the perfect match! 🐾❤️

Thank you for your interest in adopting! Do you think you could be Big Smoke's person? Apply today!

TIP: We strongly suggest all applicants to write a little bit about themselves when prompted.

The Victoria Center is open for in-person adoption viewings Tuesday through Sunday, 12pm to 4pm, staff and animal well-being permitting.

Some animals may not be available for public viewing due to limited shelter space, medical and behavioral reasons, or other contributing factors.

Due to the high number of applications, we will only be contacting select individuals to further review their interest. If you do not hear back from us, it is possible that this animal has already found a forever home. You can always call or email to inquire about your application further and our staff will do our best to get back to you when time allows.

Animals cannot be held for potential adopters for more than 24 hours without a legitimate reason.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
