My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucerne!

Lucerne comes from an outdoor cat colony, his past making him a bit shy and reserved, however he has made tons of progress with his socialization and will now seek out attention and pets from those he trusts. Having spent his life with other cats already, a confident resident cat who could show him the ropes would help him continue to build his confidence, but this is not a requirement. He would prefer a quieter home as loud noises or quick movements can still be a touch scary.

Lucerne is a very sweet, affectionate boy once he comes out of his shell. He absolutely adores getting all the chin, ear and belly pets, and will happily purr the day away. Lucerne deserves a furever home that will appreciate him for who he is and give him the love and patience he needs to become the confident, snuggly boy he was meant to be.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
