My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kenzo is a 2-year-old Husky and pure joy on four legs! Weighing around 60 pounds, his happy-go-lucky spirit turns every moment into an adventure, and every person he meets becomes his new best friend. Kenzo has perfected the art of balancing high energy with good behavior—whether it’s going for long hikes, zooming around the yard, or chilling quietly when you’re away.

When it’s time for a walk, Kenzo can hardly contain his excitement. He greets every adventure with the most endearing little spin-hops, like a ballerina mid-celebration. Plush toys—especially those Duluth Trading Co. beavers—are his prized possessions, and nothing makes him happier than a good tug-of-war session. He’s also a sucker for car rides, eagerly sticking his head out the window to soak in the breeze and greet the world.

Despite his high energy, Kenzo knows how to behave indoors. He’s house-trained (zero accidents so far!) and perfectly happy either in his crate or free-roaming. While he thrives on activity, Kenzo channels his energy positively and isn’t destructive when left alone. Unlike the typical Husky "opera singer," he’s surprisingly quiet—just a few barks when the doorbell rings and playful grumbles when the mood strikes.

Kenzo has lived with kids before and did wonderfully—his only challenge is remembering not to overwhelm them with play. As for other pets, he’s friendly and interested in dogs, making him a great candidate for a home with another playful pup. Cats, however, are a no-go—he has a classic Husky prey drive, so it’s better to skip feline roommates.

Kenzo’s past hasn’t been all sunshine. He came from a neglectful situation, arriving underweight and in need of care. But you’d never guess it from his attitude! He radiates love and positivity, proving every day that no hardship can dim his spirit. With good food and care, he’s already bouncing back and gaining weight steadily.

Kenzo is not a candidate for apartment living, but it's possible that he could live in a condo or townhome. Of course, a fenced yard would be a dream, but an active family who can love him is all that matters. He doesn’t need humans home 24/7, though he’d definitely prefer a family that enjoys spending time with him. While he’s okay being alone, a playful canine companion and regular outdoor time would keep him happiest.

If you’re ready to welcome a dog who treats every day like the best one ever—and wants to share that joy with you—Kenzo is waiting! Whether it’s long walks, playtime, or quiet cuddles, he’ll be by your side, spreading happiness at every turn. This boy has so much love to give and can’t wait to find his forever family—are you ready for a lifetime of spin-hops, zoomies, and smiles?

The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
