Overview

Looking for a snuggle buddy? Obi is waiting to become your new shadow.

Obi is incredibly playful and loving! He loves to be on your lap and will snuggle right up with you whenever you want to take a nap . He’s about a year old, and weighs 12 lbs. He was abandoned at a gas station in a box with two other dachshunds when Little Paws took him in, and has been showing his gratitude with unsolicited kisses ever since.

Environment

Obi is looking for a home where he can get a balance of snuggle time and playtime, as long as someone is with him a lot of the time. He understandably has some separation anxiety, which he has supplements and cbd drops for. These help, but he would like a new family who don’t have to leave him alone very much. Obi loves walks and does well on the leash, and loves to play with his foster siblings. He doesn’t need a backyard and is pretty quiet, so he’s well suited to apartment living. He doesn’t like the crate, and he’s surprisingly adept at jumping in and out of a pen so having a home where he’s safe to roam is key. Obi is also very curious, he will snoop in everything but it’s unlikely to be a problem since he rarely leaves his person’s side.

Pets & People

Obi is amazing with all the pets and people who cross his path. He gets along well with other dogs—even reactive ones—and children, and will approach anyone for kisses and pets. He’s interested around other dog’s food, but isn’t protective over his own. Obi wants to be his persons Number One dog.

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
