Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Let me introduce you to Huck, picked up by one of our officers as a stray on 10/29 and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Huck is a mixed breed (Dog Scanner app suggests Black Mouth Cur/Rhodesian Ridgeback), weighs approx 65-70 pounds and is about 3 years old. He has the most entreating sad liquid brown eyes. He has been terrified since arriving at the shelter being in an unfamiliar place with people he doesn’t know, confined to a kennel and with barking dogs kenneled around him. One of our volunteers skilled in working with fearful dogs has taken a special interest in Huck and has been interacting with him helping him to feel more comfortable and trusting. We feel it possible that Huck has been living in an abusive situation. He has callouses on his elbows indicating he has probably lived an outside life. He has scabs, a hotspot on his side and sores in his mouth (being treated with antibiotics), fly bites on his ears and terrified by a leash. However, this timid, fearful, nervous boy is making progress in walking on a leash, and learning to trust. He is cautiously friendly and will allow loving attention. Our volunteer says he is calm, gentle, well-mannered and is warming up. She feels he has the potential be a devoted and loving family pet. Sweet boy needs out of the shelter and into a quiet, well-ordered household in which he can continue to progress.
